HMV in th UK is selling these for £3.99 or £4.99 each
Sound is excellent on those I've heard , the liners are reduced versions of original CD issues. All the important facts are there. Only the Lester Young Trio date lacked detailing of personnle or recording dates. The booklets provided are 4 pages in total ( including front cover ). Cover art is reasonably well reproduced , certainly not as tacky as the Spanish BN series.
1917-42 Four missing Bix, Bessie, Goodman, Ellington Okehs
1943-59 Have them all
1960-79 5 missing Taylor, Roach, Mingus, Holland, Ayler ( waiting for the definitive set !!)
1980- 2000 Only have one the Murray,
here's another great one that'll probably appeal to many
Senne Sing Song- Tzadik- Misha Mengelberg Trio- almost his greatest hits only Peer's counting song isn't there, great playing and very good sound.
Johnny Hodges - Memories of Ellington - (Columbia UK pressing "Clef series" of Norgran MGN 1004)- turns out to be a real dog's dinner of an LP with tracks from a number of session between 1951 and 1954. Sound is lovely though.
This, too, is avant-garde.

Is it just me, I love Lester but this session is really poor. Much like th eworst of Bud on verve it should have stayed in the vaults IMO
details of Frank's new quintet disc are up on the Smalls Records website but it's not obviously available to buy. Ordered the Sacha Perry and Backstabber discs for the time being....
back to reality , hair-dos are not a problem ( for me) mohawk, big bush, bald eagle etc , however most of the KJ material that I'd heard didn't strike a chord with me , Radiance is as I say pretty good and remarkably doesn't out-stay its welcome despte being 2 longish CDs.
In fairness I must listen more closely to his output..
I've largely made it a mission to avoid KJ , mainly because of some bad hair-dos f rom the seventies and also because of the grunting. However, I fairly recently got his 2CD solo set recorded in Japan on ECM (Radiance?) and blow me, it's not half bad and not a freaky hair-do in sight..
also struck me as pretty boring but hey, we live and learn
To think I didn't get the Mosaic whilst it was in production just because I had one of the sessions on CD already (Right Now !) . Stupid ,I know but at least I've managed to piece the set together over the years with a mixture of Conns, JRVG, TOCJ and a McMaster.
I'm a big fan on McLean's BN output but found the Consequence material to be a bit weak when I heard it and certainly not upto the rest of the material in the box. None the less I'll still be getting the upcoming Conn.
That's what I'm hoping, the Berry I'll get for sure. The Jazz Masters series sampler of Oliver Nelson's is very good and does stimulate my interest in this set.
Pee Wee Russel Plays - WRC ( ex DOT) 1960?- no date given
The WRC label from the UK produced quite a number of sessions licensed from other labels in the USA. Pressings and quality of the issues I've seen are very good for what I presume was a budget label/ record club.
I looked at Project as well as Rega and concluded that the Rega was a long term better bet in terms of build ( Project balance mechanism looks very delicate).
Rega's money goes into a great tone arm and decent motor. No whistles and certain no bells. I avoided the P2 as the fibre board platter concerned me.
I think the P2 is £200 and the P3 £300 with cartridge extra. Denon do a very good but inexpensive MC one for £70 which is very good value. At a later date if you're so inclined the P2 or P3 can be upgraded by rewiring the tone arm (£120) ( I've not done this yet)
