he's also in great form on a new Hep CD recorded in 1998 , I had no idea he was (in 1998) still active
CD 2087
SPIKE ROBINSON
"The CTS Session"
with Bill Crow(bs), John Williams(pno), Pete Cater(dms), guesting on acc.gtr Louis Stewart .
New and rather expensive HT release
read about this in Jazz Review (UK) , I was intrigued until I saw the price, anyone know if this release is really that good to justify it's price point at nearly three times the norm.
edited to spell the man's name right
last summer at a farmers market in Provence ( France) I picked up first edition pressings of Art Blakey Vol. 1 ( at Club St Germain) and Lou Bennet- Amen both on RCA France in NM condition and only 8 euro each. I was pleased.
as it turns out all 4 discs are warped and first tracks on each side skip badly for the first 2-3 mins before settling to a lower grade brushing sound. Although the set was inexpensive I'm gutted.
From my newly arrived disc one from Martial Solal-Live- 1959-1985, sadly there is a warp in the LP which causes hiccups for the first 2 mins on each side,
I got this at the last gasp along with AEC Nessa box ( True Blue promotion), very different from each other but I cope (just) by playing small quantities at a time of the Hamilton. I like most of it even if it's more like diazepam rather than testosterone.
You'll not be disappointed the whole 2 CDs are very strong. The 2nd Joe Henderson set probably edges the one on Disc one. Sound quality is wonderful in very good stereo which is perhaps surprising given it was recorded for radio.
fresh out of its shrink wrap...
Ira Sullivan- Flying Fish- produced by our CN, perhaps the best Sullivan album i've heard, better certainly than some of Electra dates with Red Rodney( which aren't exactly poor either)
some new vinyl , all cheap
Dorothy Ashby- Hip Harp- Prestige
Roland Alexander- Pleasure Bent- New Jazz
Max Roach - Members don't get weary- Atlantic
Tubby Hayes - Introducing...- Epic
Recently received the NY-1 Village Vanguard BN disc and wanted to give it a plug, it's really top notch Solal, very good recording sound wise too. Very cheap through amazon.uk market place ( £4.70 total inc postage to UK)
On it's way to me is a Solal 4 LP set called Live 59- 85 or something, Brownie mentioned this I think but otherwise I've no idea what'll be on these LPs
I got mine 2 days ago and have played disc 1 repeatedly but only just this morning moved on to disc 2.
The Clifford Jordan session on disc 1 is superb. Freshly minted hard bop of the highest order. Jordan is majesterial and the rest of the gang well up to the task. Clearly well rehearsed, beautifully recorded. Swings like mad. Pianist plays some really off the wall electric piano- love it.
thanks
No time to make a comprehensive list right now. I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow night/Friday morning. I will compile a detailed one (not very long) when I return. I'll be back on the 20th. It would be wise to remind me at that time.

The liners mention Jack Towers doing early transfers, he's no slouch either.
Out of interest did Ted K travel to the discs or did some one put them in a jiffy bag and mail them to him.?? I often been curious how these rare artefacts are handled.

As you have no red flag symptoms I'm not sure you really need to see a Dr at this point. I see loads of patients with acute mechanical back pain and it settles down usually with the advice I outlined above. Physio can be helpful if you're not getting moving after say 5-7 days.
trust me I'm a Dr.....really
adrian
Analgesia- Paracetamol ( +/- codeine, plus anti-inflammatory ( ibuprofen etc.)
Keep moving
Local heat ( heat rubs, hot bath)
If muscle spasm really severe consider diazepam (see Dr)
Time and more time....
Patience....
unlikely anything too serious
His sound was quite distinctive as was one I really liked. RIP, love Plectrist and his sides with Konitz
