  1. Dodo Marmarosa- Chicago Sessions- Argo- 2 LP- trio and quartet date with Bill Hardman
  2. Well, the Mosaic splits this session across two CD's -- so there one potential reason. ← almost as bad as having an LP........
  3. so has anyone heard/got either of the Frog Django's. Any idea what the coverage of their series is meant to be ???
  4. You'll enjoy both those two too. I got "Serenade and Blues" , Serge Chaloff 1950, Dodo Marmarosa 1958- at the same time as the Diz/Bird set and quite simply they're fabulous discs. The Freeman has really added to my grasp of his unique idiom (only other disc I have is "Have no fear..").
  5. the sound on the JSP set Vol 1 is excellent, great transfers etc my concern is the pressing qulaity ( if that's the right word ) of the CD. The Frog discs look interesting though...yet another possible route
  6. thanks again Flurin, certainly curious re the Sudori disc... Track 5- March like number that places it firmly in my mind as being Italian , good tenor here but no idea who. Baritone sounds like Actis Dato but it doesn't get much space. Like thsi one not as much as the Sudori or IIO numbers but pretty good Track 6- Not Bollywood, sounds more North African, reminds me of Radio Tarifa's output. Unusaual instrumentation, accordion ( or similar) tuba, vocals, violins, percussion- despite not obviously have much improvisational content I like this but wonder if it might wear thin over an entire disc's worth.
  7. a word of caution re JSP sets, I've had a number of minor problems with discs skipping or drop outs on three JSP box sets I've had. In one case there was no metallic layer on the disc at all. I was spinning the Django Vol. 1 last night and noticed a number of noticeable clicks on various tracks- nothing horrendous but I do wonder about their production standards
  8. Just received this courtesy of Flurin/ John upto track 7 and it's stunning consistent good music that hits my spot (as it were) love it , I've not read any of the above posts yet in order not to prejudice my thoughts ( other than knowing that IIO is first up) 1. IIO- cant remember which album, off hand _ Litante Sibalante ? 2. Art Farmer- lovely mellow 3. daShit- got this one 4. Michael Moore/ Han Bennick ??- Dutch sounding- lovely 7. Sudori- majorly important Italian record- now 10 years old- when's the follow up? 8- No idea lovely though, chamber jazz, 10 Italian- Trovesi perhaps- madcap panorama of styles that works well. Is that Pino on muted trumpet- seems very familiar this track- perhaps I've got it already ??
  9. wasn't the Henderson material on RCA so not likely to be in this set ?
  10. anyone know what to expect with this one, I've been impressed with what Coleman I've heard ( mainly sixties material)
  11. It' really quite staggering that it firstly was found and secondly that the sound is so good. The whole package as ever from Uptown is truly topnotch. I hope the Garner estate comes to their senses !!! ( if nothing else it'd be great to get some more Byas)
  12. Byrd's BN output is almost always worth checking if only for the company he keeps, How's this one ???- routine or better
  13. I heard a track off one of Smith's "Miles electric" CDs and have to say whilst his playing was very proficient it didn't really do anything extra/ different for my compared to Miles' versions. Now "Spirit Catcher" on Nessa ( still available from Chuck( on vinyl only AFAIK) is altogether more original and much more like it. Ambitious in it's breadth of vision and unusual instrumentation ( harps !!)
  14. I'll request that Jim (or Use) replace the link in the first post, with the link you provided. Thanks for passing this along. ← that explains a lot, I must have been the 4th to order using that link, the kind folks at red octopus emailed me saying that I had in fact ordered one ccopy and not 4 and they realised that Edinburgh, Scotland wasn't in Texas- !!!!!!
  15. looks like some how I've managed to order 4 copies of this, I should stick to English ......
  16. I am indebted to HRH...........
  17. will have to take crash course in German to be able to place order !!!
  18. Damn I should have signed up for this BFT disc as I'd surely have surely enjoyed it and nailed this one. IIO are great and Trovesi is a magician.
  19. Chu Berry- And his Stompin Stevedores- Philips George Lewis - Concert- deep groove 43w etc- great sound for 1943
  20. George Lewis Vols 1 & 2 43W63st LPs - can't go wrong for £5 Emil Mangelsdorff- Swinging Oil Drops- L+R Chu Berry
  21. Chuck what other Uptown etc. vinyl do you have for sale ?
