  1. Really !!!! I haven't got that one, is the euro version CC or not, ??
  2. The only snag with vinyl is lack of new releases coming out. Apart from a tiny numbere of releases it's the format of yesterday but a great one at that. Since getting my Rega turnatble in January I've added around 100 LPs to my collection. All dirt cheap , sound great (by and large) and have allowed me to hear an enourmous range of music I would never have heard at CD prices. Vive vinyl !!!
  3. Triangle is excellent but the standards approach on Ballade allow the Solal novice to more clearly hear his very personal take on improvisation.
  4. Bud Freeman -Summer Concert 1960 -Jazz Archive- rough recording but some nice latter Red Allen Bobby Lewis-Incantation, The Forefront-Afi records The Incredible Ira Sullivan- Stash 1980

I make it 100 , it must be a european thing
  6. Could have chosen a number of Solal's and I'm no expert. This disc is however as fine a distillation of his art as improviser as I've come across. If Solal was American be just be ignored but as he's French he suffers the european jazzers curse of complete obscurity. IMO he's a gifted genius. This collection of standards including some real old warhorses never ceases to surprise with the invention he brings. Great choice of tunes and thoroughly invigorated. Even if you don't have this one share your opinions on Solal here.
  7. sidewinder has asked me to do the next one May 17th-23rd unless there areany objections I'm going for someone from Scotlands old alliance- France

Only being an occasional worshipper at the Church of the latter day funny rat could you expand on this recommendation. I'm too lazy to check the other 100 pages for details. pretty please.
  9. Kamuca appears very briefly on Ray Browns very uneven "Browns Bag".(Concord too) The bulk of the album is wrecked by Dave Grusin and huge dolops of fromage. Ray does his best to rise above it but.....Uggh.... add the Kamuca tracks to make an even nicer Select

  15. I've got this on a 2cd set. I found Norma Winstones contributions hard to handle when I got it . Perhaps I should re-visit. Good choice.

i really like a disc he did called "Fields" on Gramavision, I think it was part of a folk series.
  20. or palmist or... reader of the runes
  21. Like most box sets this is best listened to a bit at a time, I was spinning "A to erika" ( spelling?) last night and the amount of detail in the performance is astonishing. Curiously I was struck how much this track in parts resembeld one of the groovier tracks off "Snurdy". ( sorry forget the name). Roscoe seems the threaten to turn what is a fairly abstracted piece towards the end into a dance. Great stuff.
  22. more Hill is always welcome especially this much talked about session. The other Wilson is pretty good so I'd welcome a non CC version of both of these. Does MC know how much CC is killing my purchases of BN material ??!!! ( sorry for whinged aside) great news ( if you live outside of Europe)
  23. Perhaps I had so high expectations but i was underwhelmed by her greatness when I saw her last summer. It was a polished and gleaming performance lacking much in the way of originality and verve. Stylistically she seemed all over the place as if keen to show off her versatility and influences. Way down the shallow end.... sorry

    Summer RVGs

I have most of these in the McMaster versions and few as TOCJ, I wont be upgrading but will go for "Inner Urge" as I dont have it. EU BNs continue to be CC which means fewer sales to this punter. I saw Kenton's "Back to Balboa" Cd in the racks the other day. The front cover had a very intrusive CC marker in the bottom left ( Postage stamp size) and the back cover nearly 40% of it was covered with CC information. Who is BN kidding no one is going buy this garbage.? I don't care for Kenton but the principle is the same this isn't the answer to the "Blue Harlem" thread.
