  1. Paul Bley-------Improvisie-------(Bamboo)
  2. The broadcast does have interviews with Michael Cuscuna, Ron Horton, Greg Osby etc other finds played this afternoon a very fine concert by Don Grolick and currently Buster Williams trio with Geri Allen and Lenny White. Geri more than robust to withstand fairly heavy drumming. I preferred her with Motian. Enjoyable club date from 2003.
  3. Yes I think it’s that performance. I don’t know if the Hill/Shepp was broadcast. It’s certainly not in my MD collection.
  4. This morning connected my old Minidisc player and found it works just fine. From my disorganised collection of MD Andrew Hill - —-solo recording 2000 broadcast on BBC Jazz on 3 Cecil Taylor /Bill Dixon/ Tony Oxley ——trio recording London 2003/4 ,also broadcast on Jo3 despite its limitations these sound pretty good
  5. Great player. It’s a pity that his own label is so difficult/ expensive to come by here in Europe. What I have is great
  6. For me it's mainly pianists and a few drummers that come to mind. Wynton Kelly Kenny Drew Bobby Timmons Harold Mabern Billy Higgins Art Taylor Philly Joe Jones
  7. I quite like 'For members only' but would need to find it and listen again to give a solid recommendation as it's been years.
  8. Dexter Gordon——-A swingin’ Affair———(BN) NY mono not played this in a while. Dexter sounding pretty forceful which is perhaps in part down to the loudness of the record. Great
  9. The Complete Vee Jay Paul Chambers Wynton Kelly ——- discs 1& 5 Even though Kelly isn’t especially original I don’t tire of these tracks even the wall2wall trios on discs5&6. Great uncomplicated music and just enough variety .
  10. Workshop de Lyon 50e anniversaire recent arrival is this 6CD set of the French collective. A number of years ago WdL were on BBCR3 performing an amazing piece dedicated to Edith Piaf. I have a recording on MD somewhere. No idea if that piece ever received commercial release but it piqued my interest in this group which seems to have been around a long time yet had next to no media exposure. This set is packaged in the same manner as the Soul Note/ Black Saint sets. There is a small booklet with a short essay and reproduction of the front and rear of all of the original releases. All in French.
  11. Enrico Rava -----Jazz a confronto 14-------(Horo) great record
  12. The CD arrived a few days ago but I decided to wait until my CD player returned from the workshop. I’m glad I did. Now that I’m fully reinstated I’ve played ‘Ride the wind’ and I’m staggered by the quality of the music and the sound on the disc. I know Chuck likes things to sound good but this has to be the best sounding CD I’ve possibly ever heard. It’s that good. Ok enough fan-boy adulation but it’s highly recommended.
  13. Jon Lloyd Quartet———By confusion——-(hat ART) rec. 1996 stimulating date which is new to me
  14. Roscoe Mitchell—————-More cutouts ————(Cecma ) Italy 1981 excellent trio with Hugh Ragin.
  15. That’s good to hear. He’s a great talent
  16. I was listening to this streaming this morning and it sounds good. The rest of the series sound good too.
  17. I'd love a Barron set despite having plenty of the likely contents on vinyl
  18. I’ve had no problem getting previous Resonance releases on RSD (or shortly after) Hate the queues though!
  19. That’s a better find
  20. John Mayall ———— Crusade———(Decca UK) mono bought today for £3 in very good condition. Not the best Bluesbreakers I’ve heard but not bad either
  21. Pepper Adams ———Plays the compositions of Charlie Mingus———(Workshop/ Motown) nicely played session , perhaps too nicely, it’s not twee but lacks a little of the grit that you get with Mingus. Great lineup includes Thad Jones, Zoot, Hank Jones, Benny Powell, Danny Richmond and Charles McPhearson.
  22. That’s good to know. I’ve picked a few of these Hodges plus organ albums but this sounds like one to avoid. Now playing Jimmy Witherspoon ——-There’s good rockin’ tonight———( Fontana/Interdisc) Wonderful date recorded for Pacific. Sound juicy Teddy Edwards here.
  23. Lars Gullin -------Portrait of my pals--------(EMI Sweden) First LP from the box set above. This release doesn't have the four bonus tracks from these sessions which appeared on the 2002 CD.
  24. Guy/Riley/Stevens/ Watts———Endgame ———-(Japo)
  25. Dr Feelgood ————-Malpractice———(Grand) wonderful pub-rock by Canvey Islands best including at this point ( 1975) the legend that is Wilko Johnson.
