  1. Very sad. I liked his playing and dates enormously. I get just about anything I see with him on it. A soulful player who for me at least was beyond cool.
  2. No it's just Musart, I don't think they've reissued the other Braith
  3. 2013 reissue on Real Gone Music, under license from Concord. It's the same label as reissued as Lytle's The Soulful Rebel/ People & Love. I enjoyed that one a lot so went looking to see what else RGM had reissued. Musart had your recommendation on some thread IIRC when I went searching.
  4. I’ve only a couple of Golia’s and so really don’t have a good idea of what he’s about NP Annette Peacock/ Paul Bley———Dual Unity———(Bamboo)
  5. Having had great success with MG’s recommendation on Johnny Lytle I picked up Braith’s Musart. I think it’s a pretty beguiling album , quite different from just about anything else of this era that I’ve heard. Solid recommendation MG 👍
  6. Like many of us I've been revisiting Cecil Taylor recordings in the past few days in light of recent death. I've played a few discs from Corona One box set - 2 Ts for a lovely tea. A set of fine music impaired by sound that's well below 1990s standards. Given how few Berlin FMPs I have from around that time, it'll have to do. Cecil Taylor---- Nefertiti , the Beautiful one has come----(Revenant) discs 1& 2. going back in time to 1962 and the reissue of Cafe Montmartre dates on Revenant. I'd forgotten that this issue has two hidden tracks , one at the end of each CD. I assume these are Call( alt take) and Untitled as listed in online discographies. Listening to this whole set in one long listening session ( with headphones on) = intense.
  7. This is a very good set. Pity that sessions featuring DS are so few and far between.

    Musicraft

The early Dizzy sessions were on Guild or Musicraft. I have 'Salt Peanuts' on Guild but I'm not clear of the relationship between the two labels. Thanks for that interesting link

    Musicraft

Teddy Wilson recorded for Musicraft - I have a 78 of his on this label ( I surrender dear)
  10. Rempis/ Abrams / Ra———-Aphelion———(Aerophonic) bought from Avreeayl Ra at a Marshall Allen and Henry Grimes performance ( music for a silent Japanese film) which something else altogether.
  11. Sonny Rollins ———Saxophone Colossus———(Esquire) the magic of this session never wears off.
  12. Many thanks for this and indeed for the wealth of information on your site.
  13. Some great music on this set . Fine in small doses , which in itself it tricky to achieve given the length of some of the tracks. Too many medium tempo tracks and not enough high energy burners. Despite my reservations it’s a decent set but not one I’d grab if the house was on fire!
  14. Sad news. It took me years into my jazz listening to get his music. I’m so glad that I did. Genius gets overused but I think that applies here.
  15. That review reminds me of photographers who care if an image has been taken on a Nikon or a Canon.
  16. What a meeting of giants. Wrong continent for me. Perhaps it’ll be recorded for release.
  17. The Jazz School------(Wing) Three sessions are presented here, one led by Paul Gonsalves with Clark Terry, one by Joe Gordon and one by Art Mardigan. The latter is the most interesting as the group features Don Joseph on the cornet, Milt Gold (also interesting), Al Cohn make up the other horns. Don Joseph's contributions are worth the price of admission alone. The whole album is great, which leads me to wonder what other great albums from this period featured various artists and have subsequently got rather lost as there's no clear leader.
  18. David Murray——-Let the music take you——-(Marge) interesting date from 1978 with Butch Morris on cornet , Dyani bass and George Brown on drums. Classic Ornette quartet feel to things
  19. Derek Bailey, George Lewis, John Zorn--------Yankees--------(Celluloid) France
  20. Herbie Mann Sextet----------Just Wailin'------------(Xtra) 1966 UK reissue of 1958 Prestige date. Rouse, Kenny B and Mal along for the jam session. Original cover ditched in favour of two crying children...
  21. I’m awaiting with interest receiving this one. Everything MH seems to turn to gold. She’s that good, IMO NP Johnny Hammond Smith/——-Good’Nuff———(Prestige) nice combo of two LPs . Not familiar enough where this ranks in his output.
  22. I've not heard of the latter , sounds like it should be right up my alley. Rempis Aerophonics often sound enticing but are pretty hard to come by here at a sane price.
  23. Monk meets Mulligan———-(London) trying it again , doesn’t seem too untidy today
  24. I recall being a little disappointed when the Braith BN set eventually arrived. None of it was as good as Blue John. Time to revisit.
  25. Warne Marsh/ Lew Tabackin--------Tenor Gladness---------(Inner City)
