In the spirit of openness I confess that I bought the Gil Melle from Dr Spock within the past 9 months ( can’t be exactly sure) Perhaps mine was beamed up before Mark felt the need for Gil’s Guests. By way of commiserations I wish I could say the LP was rubbish but it’s not, it’s great.......

Listening now to ‘Occupy The World’ I note that Lindbergh is on this one and a featured soloist amongst the Scandinavian band. The accordion reminds me of Vesala’s “Ode to the death of Jazz”. I’m listening with headphones on so as not to disturb Mrs Clunky but in reality they allow you to really hear what’s going on . It’s pretty extraordinary really.

He certainly deserves it.

Whilst raking through my collection I came across a bundle of Wadada related discs I’d partially forgotten about. I’d entirely forgotten I had ‘Occupy the world ‘ and next to it was Lindberg’s ‘A tree frog tonality’ , which I’d forgotten features Wadada ( along side Cyrille & Ochs). So now playing ATFT followed by OTW to get reacquainted!!

Anything with Costa on it has got to be good in my book. Prefer his piano playing to vibes

Got to love the Dragon series of Gullin CDs. Generally good sound and production , both improving as the series progressed. Some sessions are scattered across different discs but it makes in my view for generally better listening experience than having alternative takes programmed in sequence.

I generally manage to look after my vinyl ok. I did manage to wreck a Keith Jarrett ECM LP when I cleaned it in my RCM. Evidently there was a small piece of debris on the cleaning brushes which scored the vinyl as it rotated. I kicked myself and should have been upset but then figured .........it's only a KJ record......and I'm not exactly wild about his stylings... I was concerned however, when I dropped this Willis Jackson LP because its very fine, Damage was minimal - luckily !!

thanks for that Mark , i've not encountered the Treader label..... Ten Summers , i have but the earlier TUMs I don't. Food for thought. Tabligh, Najwa, The Great Lakes Suite I know and love.

YANA——Baby/People——(two rivers) UK Corey Mwamba , Dave Kane and Joshua Blackmore. Exact instrumentation isn’t documented but it basically vibes/percussion/bass trio. Very spontaneous sounding music which is beautifully recorded. Mwamba’s vibes sound warm and rounded so it might be marimba he’s playing, I’m not sure. Sounds great , I’d love to see these guys live . Think they’re active in Leeds

These were mainly Savoy recordings licensed to Melodisc UK , a couple of Dials and a Bel-tone were of US origin. Needless to say I’ve nothing to prove their provinace but the story is enough for me.

I have some very battered Charlie Parker 78s . They became worn and scratched through constant playing , replaying and analysis by a group of early British boppers which included Ronnie Scott, Ralph Sharron and Pete Chilver from whom the discs were indirectly purchased. This history gives great satisfaction which more than makes up for their deficiencies.

This is great set, I was very glad a picked it up before it went OOP. It positively changed my opinion on Liebman who I had labelled as being "not Wayne" !

I was looking for a comprehensive thread regarding Wadada Leo Smith. Although his recordings are referenced in a number of threads I couldn't find a recommendations thread as such. Anyway I was looking at his output as listed on discogs , he has apparently released 38 recordings listed under his name since 2000 with 16 since the start of 2014. I thought I had a lot of his material but realise I haven't even heard half. Do you have any particular recommendations of his recordings since 2000, and if so why? I feel in mood for more Wadada , I have the new solo Monk album on Tum in mind but I'd be interested in others thoughts. my own favourites in this period would probably America's National Parks and Nessuno , both very different releases from 2016. The Italian release is just a stunning piece of improv where as the TUM release is work of great beauty which ought to be more accessible to the open minded.

Makatuka has been reissued on vinyl recently. I have a copy somewhere! No idea if it’s a legitimate reissue.

I bought this recently and I was staggered at the poor quality of the recording. I wondered if mono issues might be better. Interesting music but marred by dreadful audio.

Thanks for that , I can’t seem find that at Juno but I’m navigating using my phone. I did notice that Hot Lotta is due for reissue.
