  1. the mix on the Reece is dire , at least on the LP, still enjoyable date but screwed up by someone. I'm passing on the set as I have enough of the sessions on LP.
  2. Paul Jeffrey—/———Electrifying sounds of Paul Jeffrey ————( Harkit UK) recent reissue of Savoy 1968 recording. Comes with CD,new liner notes by Simon Spillett. Hard to know if this is a boot. Sound is fine (perhaps a shade dull ) but Savoy recordings of this era weren’t too consistent. Music great of course
  3. That looks like an intriguing session. I don't really have a handle on Galper or Hino.

    Herb Geller

I spoke briefly to Herb once at the interval during a performance in the 90s. He was charm personified and happy signed a few CDs. He recorded some decent sessions for Hep and there's a fine date on Freshsound with Kenny Drew. As far as I can tell he was a really solid player throughout a varied career
  5. Tonight I'm seeing Playtime with Raymond MacDonald at the Outhouse, Edinburgh. Playtime has joint leaders in Martin Kerhsaw ( alto, clarinet etc) Graeme Stephen (guitar and electronics) plus regulars Tom Bancroft (drums) and Mario Caribe (bass) i last saw Macdonald performing a duo with our own Alex Hawkins in December '17. The Playtime sessions run fortnightly throughout the year since 2014. It's a small venue but it's great to see audience numbers increasing to capacity. If you're in Edinburgh it's worth checking out
  6. I like "Live" and "One , two , free" by Eric Kloss - both from 1972 on Muse
  7. With time I’m getting the feeling that Pat is always good. I don’t have many discs or LPs but all seem excellent
  8. That’s the nearest I have too. Ward is under appreciated but he plays well. I’ve been enjoying his “Lito” on Leo lately
  9. Billy Bang -----Outline No. 12-------(Celluloid OAO) This perhaps lack the "danceable" quality of some Bang but it's definitely better than it's cheap price ($10) on Discogs might suggest. Eleven players are listed but they're rarely playing together at the same time. It sounds like a very small group playing chamber free jazz. Amongst the cast are Wilbur Morris, David Murray, Charles Tyler, Khan Jamal and Sunny Murray.
  10. Jones/Kikuchi-----------Hollow Out-------------(Philips Jpn) Elvin at his finest, percussive date and then some. Kikuchi and Gene Perla also knock the stuffing out of their instruments .Thanks Mark (mjazzg) for pointing me in the direction of this one.
  11. His 1972 Pierre Cardin LP. is the only occasion I’ve heard Wood’s playing and thought wow!!!
  12. I think this’ll go on my wanted list. I have and like a couple of albums from this set.
  13. Masahiko Sato----Palladium----(EMI/ Far East Jazz Series) Jpn. This is the back cover to this reissue of a very fine session. The version of John and Paul's Michelle sounds superb , which says something as i'm all but allergic to jazz covers of Beatles tunes.
  14. Masabumi Kikuchi In Concert (Philips Japan) Shows influence of IASW and BB to a lesser extent.
  15. I'd agree he sounds very relaxed and talking honestly. Thanks for this.
  16. I'd not heard of this. It's on U-tube and sounds wonderful. I'll look out for this , thanks.
  17. My final RSD purchase, something different for sure, noise. I don’t really have much of this but I like Mats Gustafsson so I thought I’d give it a go. Merzbow/Pandi/Gustafsson/ Moore ———Cuts up, cuts out———-(Rarenoise Records) pretty much a wall of sound but with a underlying pulse. A bit like ‘The Necks’ only not soporific. To be played when the family Clunky are out of the house. Interesting
  18. Now's the time , but to my ears side A & B aren't really jazz funk. Others might disagree
  19. That’s a fair summary. Currently I’m back to Funk in France - side B . Fans of GGs earlier boppish records should fear not as both RSD issues have plenty of straight ahead playing
  20. Great set. Still annoyed that missed out on the Cellar Door set
  21. I’m on side two of Slick! now and I have to say this is a great record so far. Grant’s playing is sublime and sound is the business. I don’t know about this being ‘ commercial music’ it just sounds great. my local had three copies of each GG and a couple of Nutty’s. I also picked up on spec a Mats Gustafsson/ Thurston Moore ‘noise’ album to try something different. We’ll see.
  22. Grant Green——Slick! Live at oil can Harry’s -———(resonance) just playing it now. More nuanced than I was expecting. Nice
  23. Three great choices. I know ‘Here to stay’ least well , will need to dig it out.
  24. Happy Birthday Flurin, hope you have a good day. Adrian
