  1. Stanley Cowell ------Blues for the Viet Cong-------(Polydor UK) Well recorded session but pressing only average. Good music.
  2. Congratulations on your perseverance . I'm sure you'll enjoy it all the more for waiting. It's a set I'd love to hear.
  3. Next up Frank Foster/ Elmo Hope------------Wail Frank wail---------( Esquire) Fine bop date with Art Taylor and Freeman Lee ( about whom I know little ) can't post the cover of this Esquire but it's mega dull- just yellow !! Music is great though. Another solid RVG recording
  4. Ronnie Ross --------Double Event --------(parlophone ) Decent hard (ish) bop date. Recorded hot in June 1958 with Andy White on drums. The same (I think) Weegie White was of course the first or second fifth Beatle replacing the laconic Starr on one version of "Love me do". Cleopatra's needle this isn't but it's well worth hearing.
  5. Pepper Adams/ Barry Altschul -----------Be-Bop?----------(musica) Two As from different eras.
  6. It's "in the family." Thanks for your sentiments ! Hope you got some nice ones from that list, Clunky. I just wish that the Esquires were easier to find. From what I gather, Carlo Krahmer and Peter Newbrook pressed them in very small runs/batches and some of the titles must have only got 1-2 batches at most. I did rather too well which is why I passed on the Wallington.
  7. Radu Malfatti/ Harry Miller---------Bracknell Breakdown --------(Ogun) Some careful listening required here but this is top drawer.
  8. I was tempted by a copy if this on Alan's specials list but in the end I just couldn't justify the cost. My K2 disc will have to suffice. Great session Yes, this is indeed the one from 'the list' and I was suprised that Alan still had it when I asked. I'm a huge fan of Esquires and this only comes up rarely so went for it. Much, much better condition than the sleeve pic shown ! Glad it went to a good home !!
  9. At over 4000 yen ( bought as a single disc) it will still probably get hit by UK customs make it cost close to £30 ! I'll pass on the Gonsalves for now.
  10. I was tempted by a copy if this on Alan's specials list but in the end I just couldn't justify the cost. My K2 disc will have to suffice. Great session
  11. Very sad , RIP
  12. Another thumbs up for Teens, I've still to listen to Whammies Vol 2 (seem to have mislaid the still sealed disc!!!)
  13. Barney - RCA France Great session with Dorham. I'm content with my Japanese LP/ CDs.
  14. Pray tell....... The Barney Wilen? I wish , the Wilen was way too rich for me.
  15. Yes Alan's Specials is a nice list. I secured a few good ones.
  16. JLH's track record with his reissues is second to none. I'd trust his ears and judgement. Reviewing my existing Dial material on Spotlite and Stash reveals very marked variations in sound . The Parker material for example is better than the McGhee or Dodo sessions. I'd be especially interested to hear how these latter sessions fair with these new masterings.
  17. It's an afternoon tailor made for Cecil listening....
  18. Cecil Taylor Unit--------At the cafe Montmartre-------(Debut Denmark)
  19. Just love this set. The mono UK London Atlantic edition sounds excellent too.
  20. Given that this set's selling point to many will be the sound it's surprising that low bit rate samples are all Mosaic manage. Listening through the low bit rate artefacts of whooshing the music sounds strong and clear. I'll be on fence though until it's clear that this set upgrades the sound of previous editions. The recent Uptown Howard McGhee duplicated a few tracks found on his Dial sessions released by Spotlite. The Uptown sounded significantly better. If that level of upgrade is seen on the Mosaic then I'll be buying.
  21. This is an excellent release in good sound. I don't recall where these sides originated.
  22. Most of my stuff comes from Alan Ross at Jazzhouserecords but the Blakey was from a stall at a community fair.
  23. I thought I'd done similarly well getting an NY mono "Indestructible" for £9 last summer. I only realised last week that it was 'earless' so probably not such a bargain. Sounds good though.
  24. That's good to hear. I was only looking at purchasing a vinyl copy this morning. My copy has blue/ white labels rather than the later blue/black. Having said that I've no idea how many different pressings there are of this title.
