Johnny Hodges----- Rippin' & Runnin'------(Verve UK)
Jeep has Freddie Waits, Jimmy Ponder , Billy Gardner & Ron Carter for company on great little blues set

Gil and Steve , perfect
Whitey Mitchell--------Get those elephants out'a here---------( MGM) UK single sided white label test pressings,
cover consists of a large manilla envelope with the rear cover from the UK edition of the album taped to one side. Music is solid enough, nothing homemade about it,

Frank Foster/ Elmo Hope------------Wail Frank wail---------( Esquire)
Fine bop date with Art Taylor and Freeman Lee ( about whom I know little ) can't post the cover of this Esquire but it's mega dull- just yellow !! Music is great though. Another solid RVG recording
Ronnie Ross --------Double Event --------(parlophone )
Decent hard (ish) bop date. Recorded hot in June 1958 with Andy White on drums. The same (I think) Weegie White was of course the first or second fifth Beatle replacing the laconic Starr on one version of "Love me do". Cleopatra's needle this isn't but it's well worth hearing.
It's "in the family."
Thanks for your sentiments ! Hope you got some nice ones from that list, Clunky.
I just wish that the Esquires were easier to find. From what I gather, Carlo Krahmer and Peter Newbrook pressed them in very small runs/batches and some of the titles must have only got 1-2 batches at most.
I did rather too well which is why I passed on the Wallington.
I was tempted by a copy if this on Alan's specials list but in the end I just couldn't justify the cost. My K2 disc will have to suffice. Great session
Yes, this is indeed the one from 'the list' and I was suprised that Alan still had it when I asked. I'm a huge fan of Esquires and this only comes up rarely so went for it. Much, much better condition than the sleeve pic shown !
Glad it went to a good home !!
At over 4000 yen ( bought as a single disc) it will still probably get hit by UK customs make it cost close to £30 !
I'll pass on the Gonsalves for now.

JLH's track record with his reissues is second to none. I'd trust his ears and judgement.
Reviewing my existing Dial material on Spotlite and Stash reveals very marked variations in sound . The Parker material for example is better than the McGhee or Dodo sessions. I'd be especially interested to hear how these latter sessions fair with these new masterings.
Given that this set's selling point to many will be the sound it's surprising that low bit rate samples are all Mosaic manage. Listening through the low bit rate artefacts of whooshing the music sounds strong and clear. I'll be on fence though until it's clear that this set upgrades the sound of previous editions.
The recent Uptown Howard McGhee duplicated a few tracks found on his Dial sessions released by Spotlite. The Uptown sounded significantly better. If that level of upgrade is seen on the Mosaic then I'll be buying.
