  1. Wayne Shorter--------The All seeing eye---------(BN Liberty) A non RVG mastering if the runout is to be believed but it sounds stunning in this edition and a significant upgrade to my RVG CD.
  2. Kenny Dorham-------Showboat------(Oriole UK) Fantabulous KD session
  3. Billy Harper -----Capra Black-----(Strata East)
  4. I'm going to have to re-read this thread and revisit any Moran discs in my collection. I had no idea he was so controversial. I really not listened closely enough to him but my overall impression was he was pretty decent player but one I would struggle to pick out in a BFT.
  5. now spinning.. The Heath Brothers---------Marchin' On !---------(Strata East )
  6. I've just 3 and found them to be perfect, although they can come out of shrink wrap with odd dusk marks and even finger prints. Nothing I can't clean off.
  7. Herbie Hancock ---------Maiden Voyage--------(BN NYC mono ) Latest arrival . I thought my Toshiba edition ( stereo) was good but this is something else.
  8. Herbie Hancock ----------Maiden Voyage--------(BN -Toshiba )
  9. I think this Mosaic gets more play than any of the others. A times quite primitive ( first 2 sessions) but always unfailingly interesting despite or perhaps because of it's flaws.
  10. Joakim Milder has released a couple of CD of BFs compositions . Until Spotify came along if not had the opportunity to hear Intervall.
  11. Art Blakey-------indestructible --------(BN NY mono) Along with Mosaic Buhainas Delight and Free for All . Art's best.
  12. I saw Fujii in a trio the other night at Pathhead ( a small village outside Edinburgh. Tom Bancroft (drums ) lead the completely improvised set . It was a stunning concert that really defies description. I felt truly privileged . I ended up buying 4 discs featuring her or her husband ( trumpeter Natsuki Tamura ) I think her Ma- do quartet is possibly her best group.
  13. Great cover -- photo and design. Seconded - awe inspiring cover/photo The cover photo is a clever one. The title "Silver Cornet" might imply some through back to yester- year a thought which is confounded by the freshness of the photo , cropping just through Bobby's head and the blending of the title with the photo. So the overall effect ( to me at least) is that the cover should give a good guide to the music therein. I 'm left expecting intimate and intense music ( photo, layout) but from with the tradition ( title) By comparison Hatology covers aren't as helpful. Cover shots of lampposts or clouds seem less informative. I suppose the typical Hat customer is expecting something pretty abstract anyway , what ever the cover. The diverse nature of Chuck's output demand and get better cover art. Just my take of course I'm looking forward to this
  14. Sonny Rollins------Saxophone Colossus---------(Esquire ) Excellent pressing of this classic.
  15. How's this one coming on? Is there a release date ?
  16. Red MItchell----------Presenting------------(Vogue UK)
  17. As good as Exit?
  18. not played 78s for a month or so. Another burst of activity, flipping them over after 2 plus minutes. Some shellac pulled at random off the shelf Horace Henderson- -----Minnie the Moocher's weddin' day/ I'm rhythm crazy now------( Decca) 18171. Originally part of an album Bud Freeman & his windy city five-----What is there to say/ Keep smiling at trouble---------(Parlophone UK) Freeman is always worthy of attention
  19. The Monk/Blakey is entirely in mono,
  20. Sam Rivers---------------Fuchsia swing sing----------(BN NY mono)
  21. Wayne Shorter --------Juju----------(BN NY mono)
  22. Jackie McLean --------A fickle sonance ---------(BN NY mono) This is a top drawer transitional date IMO
  23. I hated "Turm me loose " the music rather than the sound. Ghastly. I had the original LP of Half Note which was severely under powered . I suspect the original recording isn't up to much .
  24. Are we talking about the 'Jazz Best Collection 1000' series? http://wmg.jp/jazz1000/index.html If yes, are you able to elaborate on the night and day difference? Do you mean sound wise, or physical product wise? They seem pretty identical to me, apart from what i mentioned in my previous post. Some of the Euro ones have sounded bad to me (a couple of Art Farmers in particular) but i put that down to the individual recordings... would love to get the Japanese versions to compare. Agreed- " Live at the Half Note" and "Interaction" are as hard as nails. I bought a few others recently, these "euros" sound excellent. fathead comes on To whom keeps a record Monk/Blakey (mono)
  25. It's the pseudo-Japanese issues made in EU. Of the three Chris in Person is the noisiest. Witchcraft is the best with A jazz date.. somewhere in between. I've a worn Atlantic London LP edition of the last title. Despite having a hard life with a previous owner, it sounds calmer and less snake-like than the CD.
