No; it's not a hoax. The CD features two authentic Cuban brothel trios, circa 1958. And the recording quality is excellent. I quite like one of the trios, called Trio Zamora. The other trio, Trio Melodica somewhat less. Overall, I found the music pleasing, and of course very romantic. Alas no photos of the ladies, just some suggestive drawings.

Very good music on this recently released CD.

The Artists House material is all in the Galaxy Box. In general, the Galaxy albums are better, as I recall.

What am I missing? It's a joke, NPR is so politically correct it's painful to listen to.

IMO that one is the best of the three similarly named releases in the series. But the other two are worth hearing, for sure. I ordered Modern Highlife Afro Sounds Nigerian Blues, it arrived today, and I'm liking the first disc just as much as the other compilation.

Eddie Costa and Art Farmer--In Their Own Sweet Way (Premiere). I thought this might be a budget label, but this proved to be a virtually unplayed copy on heavy vinyl, with a bit of surface noise but actually beautiful sound.

I have been appreciating Smalls more and more my last few visits. In that regard, the Jeremy Pelt group (with J.D. Allen and Danny Grisset) on Feb. 2 and 3 looks good. Then on Feb. 20, also at Smalls, David Schnitter. I see some good stuff on the Fat Cat Schedule: Shimrit Shoshan at 7 on Feb. 5; George Braith on Feb. 7. And on Feb. 19, both Charles Persip and Freddie Redd.

This weekend, Henry Threadgill, discs 5 and 6.
