  1. Well, the losses by Mizzou and WVA brought a truly bizarre (and entertaining) season to a close. It will be interesting to see how the whole BCS situation plays out. I'm sure there will be much bitching and moaning.
  2. 40% off one DVD box set on 12/3 and 12/4 only Not bad....
  3. So I guess anyone who doesn't have the NFL network won't be seeing the GB/Dallas game, is that correct? That really sucks.
  4. So, Barak, you were saying?
  5. I'm glad something good has emerged from all the BS you must have been dealing with. Congratulations Peter! I'm always happy to see someone get something they want in life.
  6. Sound like an interesting book- I'd also like to read Anthony Boudrain's book "Kitchen Confidential". Edit: I heard an interview w/Boudrain on NPR today. Really a fascinating person who's had quite a life.
  7. Yes, Happy Birthday Strays! The more I study his compositions and arrangements the more I am impressed by his talent. I've been hearing his version of Nutcracker quite a bit lately, and I really love what he did with that music. And what a great vehicle for his skills he had in Duke's band.
  8. Hey now! I resemble that remark!
  9. ..plus the Clayton/Hamilton big band. Of course! One of the best in the business today. I did not list it because you mentioned Jeff Hamilton already in your previous post. Yes, although I initially was thinking of him in the small group context (his trio).
  10. Sorry to hear about this.
  11. ..plus the Clayton/Hamilton big band.
  12. Somehow I'm worried you're referring to me, even though those aren't my letters! Your name doesn't provide a lot to work with! Several of the ones I posted did seem oddly appropriate, though.
  13. A few current/recent drummer-led groups that I can think of: Matt Wilson Roy Haynes Winard Harper John Hollenbeck Jeff Hamilton Jack DeJohnette (other than the Jarrett trio) Jimmy Cobb Jeff Watts Our very own Johnny E and the Reptet
  14. Here are some board members: Fled jam? No sir! Sell sugar! Syringe Jam Cement line Can She Suck? An Odd Lug Foe Farrell J No ..plus, an old friend: Ear Johnson ...and finally, a former pop icon: A Moonlit Belch
  15. BIG FOOD!
  16. Do we get paid in cash? I can't make the rehearsal. Can my girlfriend get in for free? Is there an open bar? Can we eat? Not that lame sandwich crap, I mean the same stuff the guests are eating. Do we have to play "Electric Slide"? "Macarena"?"Cotton Eyed Joe"? Do we get OT if the gig goes long?
  17. Apparently not.
  18. Happy Beefday!
  19. Sounds like she's doing fine. Great news, Jim. And Peter, I love that pic of your dog.
  20. How's she doing, Jim? Healing up OK?
  21. I've enjoyed Emeril's show over the years, but it does seem to have run its course. I like Alton Brown's Good Eats, too, but he also is running the risk of overexposure. His role as the "tough judge" on their "Next Top Chef" show was laughable (that show was such a rip-off of Bravo's "Top Chef", which I thought was a much better show). Paula Deen's shows are just fantasy. Fun to watch, but I'll probably never use any of her recipes. Plus she does get on one's nerves after awhile, especially that "old broad who obviously smokes" laugh of hers. Rachael Ray's recipes are a little more realistic, but she also wears thin quickly. Nothing against any of these folks, really. Like most networks, once someone becomes popular the Food Network seems to immediately run them into the ground with overexposure.
  22. I've heard more than a few people with your opinion, Nate! I have to say that in my various hearings of CP, I find him to be more substantial than a player simply going through the motions. I feel sincerity, a definite assimilation of his influences and a relevant vocabulary in his playing that keeps me engaged. Just curious, what do you mean by "irksome" (specific examples)? (and I ask out of respect for your opinion, no defensive BS here!)
  23. It must have been the Hillary people! Geez, what a nice touch for the holiday season! Sorry to hear about this, RT- glad you and Mrs. RT are OK. I still believe that having one of those alarm company decals or signs (even if totally false) doesn't hurt. Yeah, I've got Vista on my new notebook. What is it you don't like about it, just curious? And how was the Brandon-band gig? (maybe better to repspond to the appropriate thread) Better days ahead my man!
  24. I really like this one. In contrast, I also like what he played on the Steely Dan side "Two Against Nature", especially on the last cut. I like that he can sound great in various contexts. Sangrey/Clem, have you heard the "All The Things You Are" recording from some Potter clinic that's been making the rounds? I swear, THAT should make anyone who thinks he's not a player change their mind. He totally owns the tune in a very Rollins-esque way. I'm sorry, but this cat is playing some SHIT! :rsmile:
