Clark is one of my favorites. I've seen him so many times going back to my high school days. One of the most distinctive sounds of all. Let's see- the Mumbles punchlines over the years: "Watergate", "Where's the beef?", what were some of the others? And his current mantra: "The Golden Years SUCK!" Happy Birthday Clark!

I had the opportunity to meet and play with him last summer at the Brubeck Institute. A very sweet man, and when he played his whole life came pouring out of the horn. He was very frail at that point, and I had the feeling that he might not be around much longer. I hope he can spend his last days in as much comfort as is possible. "Ain't it great to be alive!", that was his mantra. I feel very fortunate to have crossed paths with him.

Future of jazz music - PLEASE READ!

Some less-than-nurturing responses here, yes, but if this is actually a "kollej" student he/she needs to learn how to approach integrating into a new (internet) community, in this case this board. He/she doesn't come off as being very articulate and by initially offering a limited scope of specific choices (instead of asking for input) displays his/her own lack of familiarity with the genre. All which leads one to the conclusion that this is someone looking for others to so their work for them. So the general response is what I would have expected. If I was to direct a student here, they would be a lot more prepared to make a better first impression. -

I learned about this one on this board. I like it a lot, and I'm not particularly cynical. -
Wow, I got a flurry of these today. I thought for a moment that I was popular!

Complete Three Stooges Shorts on DVD?

I think my favorite part was the cartoon violence- pliers on the nose, files on the tongue, pipes in the eye etc. Also I loved that great velcro tearing sound when Larry's hair was pulled out. And when Shemp's greasy combover would hang down his face. I think it was in Moe's book where he talked about some of those pie fights- they would scrape up the filling from the floor to re-use, so often there were nails and other surprises embedded in the pies. Nyuk nyuk nyuk...... -
Those make great towel racks.

One that comes to mind is Bob Dorough's Blue Christmas (To Whom It May Concern). Merry Christmas I hope you have a white one, but for me it's blue Blue Christmas, that's the way you see it when you're feeling blue Blue Xmas, when you're blue at Christmastime you see right through, All the waste, all the sham, all the haste and plain old bad taste Sidewalk Santy Clauses are much, much, much too thin They're wearing fancy rented costumes, false beards and big fat phony grins And nearly everybody's standing round holding out their empty hand or tin cup Gimme gimme gimme gimme, gimme gimme gimme Fill my stocking up All the way up It's a time when the greedy give a dime to the needy Blue Christmas, all the paper, tinsel and the fal-de-ral Blue Xmas, people trading gifts that matter not at all What I call Fal-de-ral Bitter gall.......Fal-de-ral Lots of hungry, homeless children in your own backyards While you're very, very busy addressing Twenty zillion Christmas cards Now, Yuletide is the season to receive and oh, to give and ahh, to share But all you December do-gooders rush around and rant and rave and loudly blare Merry Christmas I hope yours is a white one, but for me it bleeds Wow, pretty dark, not really "free jazz" by any means, but perhaps a little appropriate at times..... -

This reminds me of one of those Conan O'Brien "what-if" bits, and frankly, noj, I'm a little frightened. -
All the way to Vermont, sadly.

"pseudocide"- interesting word (not a wise act, however, unless the mob is after you) Wasn't that a Phil Collins tune? -
He was found to be in violation of the "Hubert" Laws.

Sadly, mine was botched, but it left me with the ability to use two urinals simultaneously.

So is this new movie "I Am Legend" that he's in a remake of "Omega Man"? That's the first thought I had when I saw the preview. I Am Legend is the title of the original novel by Richard Matheson. It has been filmed as "The Last Man On Earth" starring Vincent Price and "The Omega Man" and has been ripped off countless times (Night of the Living Dead, etc). It's one of my favorite novels but I'm so turned off by the leading man choice that I'll skip it thank you very much. Thanks for the info, Shawn. Yes, Will Smith seems to be Mr. Sci-Fi these days, doesn't he?

Vibes and Sandy may disagree with me on this, FFA, but I don't think retailers would mind if you come back and use a coupon again. I think the idea is to get you into the store to buy something you hadn't planned on at full price. By using the coupon a second time, you are visiting the store a second time, which is what they want. That's my guess. Well, based on the amount of my income that goes to Borders, I don't feel terribly guilty.
