  1. Also helpful when driving home from the gig. B-)
  2. For me the reason to close my eyes is to remove the visual stimulation and place more emphasis on the ears as the primary information-gatherers. If I don't have to read music I prefer to close my eyes, and to me it more readily opens channels of communication with the other musicians. If I do have my eyes open I tend to "be in a stare" and not look at anything or anyone in particular. Of course there are also the times when playing in a crowded club that the eyes must remain open basically to avoid collisions of trombone slide and humans/beverages (I've pegged a few waitresses and knocked a few drinks over in my day, and (I'll admit) not all by accident). I think that I should just get some of that police tape and create a safety zone around me.
  3. Hope you have a great day! h A p P y B i R t H d A y!!!!
  4. Kinky! What were you wearing?
  5. memo to others when you go to ss1's place don't forget to bring your own copy of cuz you know he ain't got it yet!
  6. More than I thought. :rsmile: <AMG>
  7. Yes, it continues to haunt me as well.
  8. Buddy Bolden's Greatest Hits. Apparently Wynton has the only copy. Come on, you knew someone was going to do it!
  9. You might be already aware of this from discussion here, but the quality of this DVD is really poor, both picture and sound. If you can tolerate that, though, the music is great. I bought it with high hopes, but was very disappointed.
  10. That would be apparent.
  11. Big band, but Mulligan doesn't play. The specifics are HERE....... Looks like a good one. I don't think I've heard it before.
  12. Sounds to me like a drive-by meating. Doesn't seem like anyone has a beef with you. Of course your piece of mind is at steak, but I wouldn't stew over it. I've heard of "ground" beef, but this is something else entirely. Done for now. Next.
  13. How many octaves did he cover?
  14. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......potatoes and bacon..........................
  15. Love your avatar Rod!
  16. I'm a Sco fan and I'm definitely curious about this one. I usually trust his judgement, and this one could be lots 'o' fun or it could be a real drag. I will probably wait to hear what people think before I take the plunge.
  17. I haven't heard them recently, but I know many very good players (often Boston/New York guys) who do gigs with the band. I think they try to maintain a high standard and select good players, so I expect it won't be a "burned-out nostalgia band" experience. All you need beyond good players is a good book, and the Artie Shaw book is a good one. There are always unforseen variables, so there is always a chance I could be wrong, but I think it would be worth checking out. It could be a "NUTTY" night! I predict you'll thoroughly enjoy yourself. At the very least your wife should earn some "hipness" credits! Let us know how it turns out!
  18. I had to cover mine in plastic wrap I love it so much.
  19. Just picked this up. Cunliffe plays b-3. Looks interesting. Plus I'm a Hamilton fan.
  20. Perhaps Gato Barbieri has the appropriate vibe?
  21. I am going to use this opportunity to resist my inclination to post a smart-ass response and potentially drive away a newbie. Unfortunately, I have little else to contribute in this case. Welcome to the board.
  22. Don't tell me. Looks like I'll be up all night... BTW, Hank, nice avatar. Mental Cruelty is a great side!
  23. This is great side, lots of fun. I'll be interested to check out the discussion. Good call Gary!
