  1. Yes, but MY GOD, MAN- the jazz record shopping there!! :rsmile:

  4. Happy Birthday! Nice sweater, too! Now could you move to the side, please- I'd like to check out the collection. B-) EDIT: Unless, of course, you're going to sing a number for us......
  5. Well said. I did the same thing being I joined and agree with you.
  6. I think the finger dislocation was a separate incident (I don't think a finger dislocation is necessarily a "bloody" injury, is it?) The "bloody knuckle" incident that Chris was alluding to may have happened later, perhaps on several occasions.
  7. Rob was around when I was living in Austin in the early-mid 80s. He truly is a monster player and a great guy. He should be better known than he is. I can hear him sounding just like you describe, Lon! As far as I know he's been in LA for quite awhile, if he was in NYC it was fairly recently. And (not to be picky or nothin' ) I believe he spells his name "Lockart".
  8. When I first moved to Chicago in 1989 or so (the lights were just up)I lived about two blocks from Wrigley on Clark street (right by "Nuts on Clark"). I could open my window during games (the ones I didn't attend) and hear Harry Caray singing at the seveth inning stretch. That's when you feel like you're really in Chicago. The real thing and Will Ferrell.
  9. This one is a favorite Booker appearance for sure. Woody Shaw seems to have been influenced to no small degree by Booker Little. BL's angular lines and unique harmonic approach are very much in evidence in Woody's playing.
  10. The piano on "Night of the Cookers" was pretty bad, although I think it was also due to the fact that it seemed to be a crappy upright, so tone quality was lame as well. I think it was the Art Farmer recording "The Company I Keep" (1994 or so) that featured a good piano that was out of tune. That's almost more painful to listen to- you'd think that a studio recording done with a reasonably generous budget wouldn't have that problem. That's the big drawback of being a pianist- you never know what you're going to have to play on. I can see why players make specific demands in their contracts.
  11. IMHO that's really not necessary- it just makes chuckyd4 (or others) look bad. No doubt about that, although I think the community there should be able to observe che w/o a preconception. Judging from his first few posts (and the subsequent reponses of those who don't yet know him) I think che is already heading down the same path and will probably end up leaving (or being kicked out of) there as well. No need for us to try and further influence what seems to be already inevitable. I'm happy he's gone, but IMHO it's not cool to follow him around and harrass him further. Let someone else have a turn.
  12. There were a few times I almost felt some sympathy for che, but then he'd turn around and stick his cyber-foot in his cyber-mouth and my feelings would go back to . As times (early on) he seemed naive and *innocent*, but soon he became IMHO consciously manipulative and intentionally tried to light some fires, and to me it seemed he was enjoying the results. Among the flames directed at him several people tried very sincerely to be calmly constructively critical and helpful (and I commend them for that), but he seemed to want none of it. I'm glad he left voluntarily, although it might have been a "quit or be fired" decision. I don't like to see people treated badly either, but I don't feel much sympathy now.
  13. HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS WHY DID YUO BAN CHE DONT YOU GUYS LIKE ANYONE? HEY SANRGY DID YOU MAKE ANYMORE OF THAT BRISKIT I COULD EAT A SHITLOAD OF THAT.

  18. I didn't remember who he was until I saw the photo- long hair, sunglasses and a 70s hippie vibe. He was great, really funny and creative. Sorry to hear this. RIP.
  19. That's not bad at all, really. Ours was a lot more, but we have some complicated biz w/our taxes. Our tax guy is really good too, and keeps us out of trouble. I'm happy to pay someone else to do it. I hate doing taxes.
