  1. NOT *elevator music*..............
  2. I've always liked this one......
  3. Just curious, how many is that?
  4. About 40. I didn't think I had that many. Are there really 100+ available? EDIT: To answer my own question, I just checked out the AMG list and I guess there are at least 100, although some listed are duplicated. I'll be interested to see who's got the definitive collection among the organ-obsessed here.
  5. That's all she wrote for Mr. Scrote.
  6. I for one am in denial that the "Jazz Organ Era" is at its end. I refuse to accept that. But I play trombone and therefore in no way exist in reality, so what do I know?
  7. My dad (RIP) was a jazz fan, and I remember hearing Jimmy Smith's "Monster" when I was too young to know what the hell it was. Perhaps one of the more commercial Jimmy sides, but it attracted my attention and now (and forever)I'm a big fan. For sentimental value, I'd like to get Monster on CD if they ever release it. At least I've got my dad's LP.
  8. Very sad. Another major heavy is gone. RIP BTW, I can't think of any place I'd rather be than here to share our feelings about JS.

    Manny Albam

I kind of liked the Jimmy McGriff Tribute to Basie on the LRC (Sonny Lester) label. Albam did the charts on that one. My copy has a different cover.
  10. I'm still waiting for the "Silver and...." series to come out. Think they'd fit on a Mosaic Select? Let's see...Brass, Wood, Voices, Percussion, Strings (which I believe was a double album)....I guess that's too much for a Select. Damn.

    Ed Neumeister?
  12. Sounds like the *Van Buren boys*.
  13. Really? I did not know that.
  14. I think things are fine just as they are. I think everyone should post just as they see fit- if people want to attack the marketing newbies, go for it. If the newbies stick around, that's great. If not, oh well. I actually get a kick out of watching the pack gather when a naive newbie wanders in and attempts to start out "on the wrong foot" (selling something or mentioning the wrong person)- kind of like Wild Kingdom, you know, "natural selection". I don't think it's particularly harmful to anyone or damaging to the board's "reputation". What, are we going to lose our government funding? This is (for the most part) not a mean spirited place- I sure wouldn't hang out here if it was. Anyone who survives their first few posts will find that out too. Chuck, are you related to Marlin Perkins by any chance? B-)
  15. OK, I'm curious about what our board members come up with regarding Valentine's Day gifts/ideas for their significant others. I'm tired of the usual candy/flowers routine. Mrs. Free For All deserves something better. After all, she puts up with me. Do you go out? Special romantic restaurant? Nice hotel? Hot tub? Spam omelet?
  16. I agree- I've always liked that one. Perhaps it's not for everyone, but by no means does it *ruin* the set.
  17. That sounds like it was a lot of fun, BM! I don't mean to horn in on your thread, but I had a enjoyable night, too. The UMKC Jazz Festival was this weekend, and the concert tonight featured the student band with Nicholas Payton and Joe Chambers (and Bobby Watson of course). I was invited to play on a tune, and the band played a couple of my arrangements (Payton was featured on my arrangement of Infant Eyes- that was a treat!). This was my first opportunity to meet Joe Chambers- I thanked him for contributing so much to what are some of my favorite Blue Notes- Mode for Joe, Andrew!, Schizophrenia, Et Cetera, All Seeing Eye, Adam's Apple, Contours, Components, Tender Moments, many Bobby Hutchersons, and that's just a few on that label only! (don't forget Fire Dance, Iron Men, Cassandranite, Mingus' Something Like a Bird and Me, Myself an Eye, etc., etc.) Holy shit! Talk about an underrated heavy! Really nice guy, too. EDIT: Oh yeah, and Stanley Cowell's Brilliant Circles, Rooster!
  18. For tomorrow, crock pot rump roast. Before I go to bed tonight I'll throw it in with some beef broth, wine and onion soup mix (about 5 AM I'll wake up smelling it ). Tomorrow, strain the juice and make gravy (I start with a flour/butter roux). Eat it w/garlic mashed potatoes and steamed fresh green beans. This is why Mrs. Free For All loves me. It's supposed to rain all day tomorrow here, so this will be an excellent Super Bowl comfort meal.
  19. Just curious what you guys think of Nice and Easy in comparison to the ones already mentioned.
  20. I believe this is what they call Method Acting. Or perhaps Methodone Acting.
  21. The onions still make you cry, but for an entirely different reason.
  22. I think you mean faux but I like your version better.
