Armand Migiani/Michel de Villers 'Cool Jazz at Saint-Germain des Prés' (Jazz in Paris) the unique 10-inch vinyl from this series!

Alexander, the power outage has been over for hours by now. Frightening to think that so many countries in Europe went blank because a cruise ship left its docks Understand that Switzerland which is not part of EU was not affected by the power failure!

Also this interesting item: Leonard Feather - Dick Hyman All Stars 'Oh Captain!' (MGM) featuring Coleman Hawkins, Osie Johnson, Tony Scott, Art Farmer, Oscar Pettiford, Jimmy Cleveland, Harry Edison and others. Vocals by Marilyn Moore and Jackie Paris!

From AP: Our place on the Paris Left Bank went totally dark last night. Since we could see plenty of lights on the Right Bank we thought this was a local problem and waited for power to be back. This took about one hour. It's only this morning we realized the full extent of the problem. Now we call blame all this on the Germans Any other Yuropeans posters got hit?

Shelly Manne- Jewish/Yiddish Folk songs (contemp.)

This is a fun hardbop date. It has been reissued - with some additional alternates - a couple of years ago. Plenty of Teddy Edwards solos. This one: -
Some of the material on those Jazz Anthology LPs came from legitimate sources but I am not really sure that they were reissued by JA with proper authorizations! Which was probably one reason their LPs sold in the low-budget category.

The Jazz Anthology was French, part of the Musidisc distribution conglomerate that went out of business a long time ago. They issued material from grey labels. A lot of their releases came from the Boris Rose bootlegs! Interesting material for sure but no new material. The legal stuff was released on other labels from the Musidisc family, including the America label. Those Jazz Anthology labels were sold at discounted price mainly!

Availability of Horo releases
brownie replied to slide_advantage_redoux's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Was buying tons of Sun Ras when these Horos were released and passed the opportunity when they were so easily available -
Now spinning some 45's: - the marvelous10incher picture disc of Robert Johnson that was released by Paris Jazz Corner with cover and picture by Robert Crumb on the disc to be followed by: - Christian Chevalier et son Grand Orchestre (Trianon) with cover by Jean Cocteau!
-
Several very good sessions that don't seem to have made it to CD: Henry Allen 'Feelin' Good' (Columbia) Bob Brookmeyer 'The Modernity' (Verve) Nat Pierce 'Chamber Music for Moderns' (Coral)

That trio on Horo looks intriguing; for whatever reason I never picked it up. Probably because it's a Horo and I rarely have kept any title on that label for very long. Not among his vest best actually but Shepp could still perform and bring interesting developments to tenor:trio formula! Glad I got that twofer when it was available!

The Ran Blake twofer 'Open City' is a minor gem! Wish I could lay hands on Blake's other Horo release 'Crystal Trip'! Never saw or heard that one... -
I'm somehow less enthusiastic about the Bud Powell RCAs when compared to his BN/Verve output. His two RCA albums seem much less open than the sides he recorded on the two other labels. Probably had something to do with a pretty close supervision which did not enable him to express himself as freely on when he was recording with Lion/Wolff and Granz! Nothing really wrong with the RCA albums. They're both very good but I don't return to these as often as I do with the BN/Verve ones! Might be interesting to be able to listen to outtakes! Wish they will turn up one of these days.

You're very welcome to it Now spinning: Bud Powell 'Strictly Powell' (RCA Victor, mono)

OK, OK! I'm going to get this one! Thanks to all (and jazzkrow in particular) for the recommendations

Your most common source for music purchases?
brownie replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I have several record shops within walking distance from my place. That's where I do most of my purchases. Very little business via the internet so far! -
Anybody heard this new release? Is this worth looking for? Understand it was recorded shortly before Rosolino's death.

Coltrane did not record under his name on Bethlehem. Best way to listen to the sessions he took part in is this double CD on Bethlehem It is complete!

The classic story about Rocky Boyd is that he went on a tour with a Philly Joe Jones unit around 1962 and has not been heard from since

Worth every $180 of its official price when Mosaic released this not so long ago!

That would be a great reissue program! I don't even know all the Fontanas that came with Roling covers, but I'd buy a box set ( ) in less than a second. Those that I've heard (that happen to ahve Roling covers) have been great. I kind of doubt Universal (U.S.) will reissue these. Maybe Universal France, a la the Free America batch? Michael Cuscuna once told me (in passing, casual conversation via e-mail) that he'd like to do a Fontana Mosaic Select. I wouldn't necessarily get my hopes up, but that would great as well. Let's see, Marte Roling did covers for Marion Brown, John Tchicai, Paul Bley, Albert Ayler ... who else? (Don Cherry?) Late, I was thinking of Universal France of course and specifically of Daniel Richard who knows his jazz inside out! As for Marte Roling covers, our friend Clifford took care of this: Fontana Marte Roling Series Edited to correct to the appropriate link!

That's probably what they're doing (remastering 26 hours per day). The other boxes that Tom mentions came from the same 'plant'! Which is why Francis and Schwarz don't have time to take care of a dedicated website. Could not find any site on this Trésors séries, not even at Le Chant du Monde which distributes them!
