  1. Did not realize she had been part of the jazz scene for the last 10 years From The Chicago SunTimes today:
  2. All I want to say at this stage is WELCOME TO TEASING THE KOREAN! He looks all right to me
  3. Most of the covers of the LPs I bought for more than 50 years show no trace of yellowing. They are stored vertically and since and since I have accumulated quite a lot, they are being kept pretty tight. with no air or dust creeping in! Many of those vinyls look nearmint!
  4. Glad to see I'm not the only fan of Tony Scott here. One Philology album I groove on is 'The Old Lion Roars' with the Mario Rusca trio. I have a very special fondness for Tony Scott! He was the first jazz musician I got acquainted with (when he made his first tour of Europe back in 1957). He delighted a friend and I with tons of fascinating remembrances! Wish he will someday complete his autobiography! One of Tony Scott's best blowing date was the album he recorded in Sweden at that time Swinging in Sweden It was a minor hit in Sweden at the time but has remained unissued outside the country. 'Very, very soulful stuff.' indeed!
  5. Guy, all three are highly recommended. The music will shake you! Those Label Bleus come with elaborate booklets that include superb photos by the great Guy Le Querrec!
  6. The Tatum-de Franco original is not as sought-after as the Tatum-Webster LP. And the MGM label means the copy is a second generation one. The Verve albums that fetch money these days are the ones with the trumpet player label!
  7. Not that much a fan of Pete Turner but I will certainly take a look at his book when I get a chance! Might be in for a surprise!
  8. Kenny Dorham 'Nada Mas'
  9. I have no problem with Red Callender on this session even if he is not exactly in the same category as Tatum and Webster but this meeting turned into one of those albums that belong in the desert island list! One to get!
  10. Roy Eldridge 'The Complete Verve Studio Sessions', disc 2
  11. The Mingus in Paris CD with the two albums Mingus recorded for the America label is out now. Disc 1 has the two albums, disc 2 has 18 alternate tracks from the sessions. Mingus In Paris
  12. Les Jazz Modes (Dawn) the Julius Watkins/Charlie Rouse group
  13. Not late at all - today is BROWNIE's birthday! You beat me to this, Barak
  14. That LP (in nearmint condition but with taped mending) just went for $202,50! Art Tatum/Ben Webster I'll have a fresh look at the Verve trumpet albums I have!
  15. Brownie, Is this you? edit: Whoops, guess not. Guy You mean that guy with the hat? Twasn't me... Unfortunately
  16. You're not the only one. Had to check and double check, as Duke would have said
  17. Volume 7, IIRC. Volume 17 actually. And one more (can't trace that one, right now!) So, I was off by 10. Brown cover. The cover of vol. 17 has a color closeup of Duke. Color him brown. The cover was actually pink! The other volume was nr. 14 which included two unauthorized tracks of a broadcast with John Scott Trotter and his Orchestra that featured Duke and Jimmy Blanton!
  18. Cooler!
  19. Spaced out!
  20. Have not visited Paris Jazz Corner in some time. But you could check with their website: http://www.parisjazzcorner.com/ Saw a copy of one of the early set in another store but the copies looked pretty beatup!
  21. Volume 7, IIRC. Volume 17 actually. And one more (can't trace that one, right now!)
  22. Ungreazy!
  23. Some of those French RCA LPs show up from time to time in the secondhand record shops here but not complete sets! A couple of the French RCA vinyls were withdrawn because they contained broadcasts that did not belong to RCA. They were subsequently replaced by issues that had only RCA-owned tracks!
  24. Greazier!
  25. Greazy!
