Play ball! 2019 MLB season thread
Dan Gould replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Speaking of doubts you can just about book it: When you need a big start from Chris Sale this year, he'll suck (and let's face it if they have any dreams of defending the division title they had to sweep the Yankees last night. At this rate they'll be back to 10-11 games by next Sunday). About the only thing they did this weekend to make Didi Gregorious look a tad premature. -
Guess you wouldn't consider collecting LD concerts either, many with the exact same set lists and stage-patter. ("We will now play some Charlie Parker, not to be attempted by fusion or con-fusion musicians.") I love 'em.

A shut-down rotation is a great thing to have but where does it say the Mets are likely to be serious contenders next year? If Stroman has another season like this one he is sure to test free agency. The prospects may not be top 100 but they were two of the Mets top 10 which says something. About both their minor league system and the logic of this trade. -
That's what I was thinking.

Enjoy the plethora of prospects the Yankees are about to unload for Syndergaard. They need the help and apparently still have the depth in the minor leagues. And that will go a long way toward fixing what (presently) ails the Yankees. -

Take 250 wins and similar ERAs and add in 3000 Ks and being the best pitcher on two teams for a goodly stretch. Pettitte was never the best pitcher on his own team once. -

When I was growing up mashed potatoes came out of a box. But when I met my wife I discovered how much better they could be when properly made (what can I say Poles love their carbs or have you not had home-made pierogi?). Anyway "Smashies" is the name around my house.

And an extra one for being a day late:

I was looking to post somewhere about "what is happening with Zev and BN especially since we're well past 1/2 way into the 80th anniversary and no announcements". Not surprised someone else was wondering and I really hope some info about something exciting comes out soon.

Is there really a special talent for getting Jennifer to do a nude scene? He was in a Sly Stallone movie, one of his better efforts - Nighthawks. (I mean Stallone's efforts - Hauer was awesome). Also remember Hitcher as a highly enjoyable film with a chilling Hauer as the baddie. RIP.

Jazz musicians in TV commercials. Can you recall any?

OK were Standards and Practices that loose back in the seventies? Because the wet t-shirt is pretty darn revealing, if fleetingly so ... -

The OP in the OP was just terrible. But did anyone notice the "that guy" actor playing the bartender? Wonder if that was one of his earliest gigs, whoever he is. -
LF Hank Demano LP- Freeway label FLP1
Dan Gould replied to Stonewall15's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Always nice to find a 45 that isn't a part of released LPs. In the not too distant past I found a Curtis Peagler/Jazz Disciples 45 that post-dated the LPs they cut, and a Sam Lazar 45 that came after the Argo/Cadet LPs. Good luck finding the elusive LP that is the subject of the thread. -
Who says any of it is "art" belonging in a museum or the equivalent? Its working musicians having, at best, a mediocre day. For someone who agrees that there is no right to hear everything, you surely seem to think that everything should be heard, because the musicians are famous now and long dead. And its "art".

I think its fair to say that record producers/label owners like Lion and Wolf promise their artists that they will 'put their best foot forward'. There are plenty of scummy characters of the time who recorded and issued haphazardly but they probably weren't the ones who paid for rehearsal time. MC is following in Alfred's footsteps and I think its fitting and proper. There is no right to hear everything from an artist and no one should look at tape vaults like an all-you-can-eat buffet. Everybody who has heard these issues knows that there are faults with every one of them. None of them live up to an average issued session (and if you need extensive editing to piece together an especially good take, that right there is a good indication that it wasn't happening.)

I'm going to be so bold as to channel Chuck here. Sigh.

Tips for Appreciating Baseball?
Dan Gould replied to Justin V's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
To appreciate it means getting into the nitty gritty, imo. Like, since you are behind the plate, you can really see how pitchers work a batter - up and in then down and away; changing eye level, changing speeds. And all (hopefully) with the same delivery and arm slot so the ball comes out the same but goes different places ... I would think for a family that doesn't watch baseball to begin with, just enjoy the spectacle. Get a picture with the team mascot, there may be oddball promotions, etc ... If all else fails to keep her entertained, keep trying to start a wave(tm). -
Yeah but why is Billie Jean King on the cover?
-
Oh that Joe Louis guy. Can't remember what was learned about his family connection (?).

You have to know the right people, and it seems the blood oath not to share haphazardly or to even think about posting on trader networks or bit-torrent sites was taken very seriously.

Cool! That means there's more Bubba with Doggett out there. -

"Dude I'm ripping off your stuff now but when I'm thru people gonna dress like me for gigs, not that shit you wear."
