  1. Wow, too many gone so suddenly and all excellent pianists. I've particularly come to appreciate Wyands, who played with so many and always sounded great. RIP.
  2. This is unbelievable. Not the story but that someone put it all together. Fantastic. And now I want to know, since Ace has done a comp or two of the Dolphin labels how the hell have those two earliest tracks never been reissued? Nor have the Vee Jays ... total mystery given the fame that he did acquire in the reissue years for his BN recordings.
  3. And the Sox finished six games above .500.
  4. One was sealed and in fine shape and so was the other which actually cost more.
  5. FWIW, after Mabern died I went for a French CD of some young tenor being backed by Mabern's trio, via Momox and Amazon. And it arrived a full two weeks before Amazon's predicted delivery date range even started. Ordered two from Decluttr, arrived inside of 5 days but GA is pretty close to central Florida. I also noticed that two separate orders got packed together so they pocketed the $3.95 second shipping charge. Not sure that's really right but ...
  6. One other thing about Maddon and his lineups: Maddon remarked on Thursday that he did not care if anyone complained about his lineups this weekend, even with the Cardinals and Brewers still jockeying for playoff position. The manager reiterated on Friday that he has no intention of asking any of his star players dealing with injuries -- small or large -- to take the field in St. Louis. "I'm not going to play hurt people," Maddon said. "I'm not going to pitch guys that are over limits, based on what's best for the Cubs, ever. So, the conclusion of my commentary yesterday was pretty much, 'Understand these guys are hurt, so if you want to try to complain, go ahead and do that.'" https://www.mlb.com/news/yu-darvish-cubs-opt-out-clause
  7. He's definitely gone after Sunday but the irony here is that tiny changes in each Cardinal game leads to a completely different outcome, and completely different pennant chase. At least when the Yankees crushed New England's heart they had the good taste to make it a total whooping. Those 1 run losses were ridiculous, in the aggregate. The odds of so many consecutive losses of that type at home were tiny. And, I don't think they would have been in position to salvage the last game against the Cardinals if they had "checked out" so much sooner. Just had no bullets left when Darvish was sent out for the 9th.
  8. Kevin, someone has to man the stopwatch. Chris says it was all Orrin was good for. I don't have a dog in this hunt, I was only recalling Chris' comment.
  9. Kevin, Chris definitely regarded Weinstock's involvement in recording sessions as being reduced to operating the stopwatch to know how long the take was going, because Weinstock had no ears to recognize a good or bad take. The money quote is what I've bolded.
  10. I don't know how its been "weeks" as after the Pittsburg series they were in great shape and firing on all cylinders. The Baez injury was a crusher to the lineup. As to injured players, no but Rizzo might not seem like he is injured anymore but he really shouldn't play the rest of the way. I was thinking of him in particular.
  11. No dog in this hunt but certainly there is no reason to play any of the injured/walking wounded or treating the games like the season is on the line. So, yeah, they are professional players on the 40 man roster, by definition a professional baseball lineup is going to be submitted these last three days. Deal with it - the whole team has checked out anyway.
  12. Belated thank yous. Can't believe I didn't come back to do that ...
  13. No Red Sox, no Cubs in October which is both odd and really disappointing, but I think everything's set for the Yankees to crash out of the playoffs soon enough so I'll take that when it comes, especially since it will be the first decade since Ruth that they didn't win a single championship. May I be struck dead if I've just reverse-jiinxed them.
  14. #3 in the US in 1993 and no other chart hits ...
  15. I think a good rule of thumb should be ONLY one top 10 hit. HJF&R had two classic tunes from that era which hold up pretty darn well if you ask me and both charted very highly too. If we stick with one hit US chart:
  16. Hamilton Joe Frank & Reynolds is really not a one hit wonder as Although its true that Reynolds had left before hit #2, they were contractually obligated to use the original band name.
  17. Or record sessions at which he held and operated a stopwatch.
  18. On the excellent Gemini label.
  19. Good luck Michael I'm happy with the CD I purchased at Sally's Place in Westport. But I'll think about throwing in some for the "no reward" category.
  20. Oh right right Live at the Penthouse how could I forget. Yes, very "hot" and not least for being close to over-driven. This "collector's circle" version can definitely be made to sound better with original tapes, no near-distortion, not to mention not squashed thru an FM broadcast tape. This would be recorded over the phone lines at the studio, pre-FM. Even more in than I was before.
  21. No the "Asian" look of the leader put me in mind of Ms. Kelly. And anyway, this album cover sure looks like she wants to add her tenor to the alto/baritone mix.
  22. Obviously I knew that since I asked if she dances with her baritonist. If I thought they were the same, I'd know that she dances with her baritonist.
  23. FWIW I picked up the Sounds LP set - same number of tracks as the CD that followed.
  24. But does she dance with her baritonist?
