  1. for the Reid Miles-esque cover but to infinity for the music coming out ... Interesting that this series has switched labels though its still connected to Resonance thru Zev I guess.
  2. I've never had reason to believe The Sounds "carried" Blue Note but my understanding is that they were consistent sellers, and you did need those to put out any number of other records by more adventurous musicians (Can I have a HAAG please?). But Jimmy Smith probably did that too, thru out the same period.
  3. Investigation Discovery: Something Something Something Murder. WE TV: Something something something hip hop.
  4. Sad news saw him only once must have been 18 or 19 years ago at Smoke, my only visit there when my wife and I spent a couple of days in NYC. First night was BB King at the opening week of his club in midtown and second night was George Coleman Octet with Harold, Smulyan (who I can still picture playing with one hand because Rotondi was playing so loud right next to him and he used the other hand to protect his hearing) and others. RIP.
  5. I'm guessing still not arrived?
  6. Sonny Gray with Cincinnati: 2.80 ERA, 1.09 WHIP in 29 starts. And according to MLB.com he tries tonight to break Nolan Ryan's record with his 32nd straight start of 6 or fewer hits. So basically he had three decent starts at the very end for the Yankees, followed essentially by an entire season of excellent work for Cincinnati.
  7. Got the wrong Flip Phillips from a Discogs Seller so this one is free to a good home in the continental US.: (Jewel case has a crack on the opening side of the front hinge and on the right edge. Was guaranteed to play.)
  8. Second year as the birthday guru so I might as well re-up this one too ... For my 54th birthday weekend I have declared my Percy France project finished (I think 147 out of 149 known tracks is a pretty darn good ratio and I can always hold out hope for this one to show up) and therefore listening, in order, to Percy's entire recorded output from December 1949 on ... BTW second photo is Percy at Allen's wedding in 1982 from Allen's facebook post.
  9. No never an issue playing what's on the thumb. I've not tried super large ones as again, don't need maximum options, just things I want to hear in an uninterrupted environment. Off topic but I mentioned how little driving I do now with no commute and its really effected my ability to listen as much as I did when I had a 30-45 minute commute ten times a week. There's nothing to stop me from listening while I work from home, except that every phone call makes me stop what's playing, and even if I get to play without interruptions, work takes enough mental energy that I don't feel like I am listening to what was playing. Very frustrating.
  10. My wife's a bit depressed by this news. She was a fan, and actually worked with him once when he did a concert (some corporate event at the PGA in West Palm Beach) when she was audio engineer at the venue. Says he was a very nice guy. RIP.
  11. Oh no doubt all of that's true. It works well for me because I plan ahead with things I want to hear soon and I'm cool with what I put on.
  12. For those with no CD players even as an option, is it now standard to include a thumb drive? I would hope so unless its only presumed that you are going to output from your phone to your no-CD stereo? My KIA (2015 IIRC) had the CD player installed with USB port underneath. I hardly drive at all since our move (2-3 x per week tops) except for monthly trips to Naples which is less than three hours each way to visit Mom. I've taken to converting LPs or other things to a dedicated thumb. So as long as USB plugs are provided I won't insist on a CD player for the next car. (and at this rate of driving that could be a long time - by then we might have no choice but to stream from the cloud to our car stereo.)
  13. Sent email to Bret and just got update that the second box set is delayed into next year. No indication of what part of 2020. Hopefully no further issues and we see whatever treats are being released soon.
  14. Sorry for your guys and him but maybe this helps the Cubs sneak back to the playoffs. They just have the worse luck right now for injuries themselves.
  15. And now barring injury, I would have to predict that if Roger doesn't somehow win the Australian in January, next May Rafa will tie him atop the leader board for Slams (if he doesn't pull ahead if he happens to win the Australian himself). Is there any easier prediction than Rafa at the French?
  16. This one must stand on its own:
  17. A few more:
  18. Yeah, and recorded on the last gig of a fairly lengthy tour, the band should have been cookin'.
  19. Is that official? He seems to record a lot for european labels but I didn't know he was formerly moved out of the States.
  20. https://www.freshsoundrecords.com/gary-smulyan-ralph-moore-albums/47606-bird-s-eye-encounter.html very excited to see this one come across the email ...
  21. I posted in this or the other Jazz Heritage Society thread about the fact there was a "club-exclusive" Benny Carter issue, More Cookin From Carlos that had another disc worth of music from the same club date. So I wanted to share what I found very recently, the excellent recording by Jay McShann with a cast of all-stars, Paris All-Star Blues had a club-exclusive two disc issue. Four unissued tracks plus four alternates, all available nowhere else. They must have had some arrangement with MusicMasters I guess. Of course if you recall the issued disc was pretty short for a CD, they definitely could have included the four bonus tracks on the original but they didn't, so I've got an order in for $6 (other copies seem to be $30 plus online!) I trust this seller still has it I'l be pisse if he comes back and says he can't find it, just didn't update the online listing. But its on two different sites right now so there's hope.
