Well I just received the basic CD Amazon waited for the Dexter/Kenny Drew in Tokyo to release. Looking forward but really not enough of a Trane fan to hear the whole thing. I'm fine with the takes considered "masters". Anyway I am really wondering how people view this marketing blitz, and the apparent success. Full page ads in dying print media and it was where, 20th seller or something? Is it just a combination of marketing muscle plus a name people know? I never thought a marketing blitz could put a legit jazz album to these numbers. Where did the Errol Garner set end up in sales? If there was a Miles record that had disappeared and got this kind of push, would it peak this high?

MLB 2018: let the games begin!

Winner of the East could have 110 wins and not have home field advantage in the ALCS. And, is this the time to take "AL" in the World Series in Vegas? Who is a dominant team in the NL? Baseball is funny enough that anything happens in a series - or the Mariners would have a championship flag flying - but I can't recall three teams this good in one league and no one even close in the other. -
Well do we know that Uptown is shutting down? I thought it was noted how his son had been listed as producer or co-producer recently. Until I hear otherwise I'm going to hope it continues but if it doesn't I doubt that they will sit on all of the assets. Logically the heirs would seek a buyer and lately that's Zev and/or Resonance. That would include the Piccadily tapes he bought and only put out the Mobley. The fact that he purchased the Grant Green gives me hope that it is in decent shape, and given the interest in Grant shown by Resonance they might purchase it for release.

Indians need to get their stuff together by the time the Yankees series arrives. -
Aww. if we had an infant, King would be pawing at his face to get him to play, like he does with Gracie. The real problem has been that Gracie was much closer to Coltrane's age when we had them, so play time was good for both of them and they sort of aged out of it anyway. now Gracie is much older and King is so young and aggressive and knocks her down too much. It is funny to see them though when Gracie decides she does want to play. He loves being chased and she will stalk him, manipulating him into moving one way and then back, this way, and that.

This reminds me of the scene in Jaws when he says "It's a tiger shark" and the guy says "a whaaaat?" Anyway that's a cool looking breed I must say. I had a beagle once so I am extra appreciative of the tri-color look.

Coltrane was a Karelian Bear Dog. Gracie has terrible separation anxiety and needed a companion after he died. We found a breeder and got King, another Bear Dog, two years ago last May. He's two and a half now and finally settling down out of the puppy phase, which is a great relief.
-
That's not Gracie that's Coltrane who died three years ago in September. Gracie is a Weimaraner, and we're fortunate to still have her. We got her 12 years ago when she was about one.

Ah! Good to know. If Resonance's release schedule is full - if still a corporate secret - it's fantastic that he is getting these out thru other means.

OH, I just picked this up in the past several months. Seems odd to issue something that Joel Dorn already put out. Very odd, if that's the case. To me its the era and the personnel combinations that just make it a "I'd kill to hear it" proposition. I think I'd hear all of them as good to great, regardless.

It was not ID'd as an Amazon brand. Gracie's problem was solved at Chewy.com which is now set up for auto-ship and the price of the large bag makes shipping free.

I thought that these were known to be cassette tapes. They only bake reel-to-reels. If these are reels then there may be the possibility of audio salvation. My threshold for a series like this is gonna be pretty low. Can't wait to hear details of what they have lined up. I'll probably buy the Etta Jones just to support the endeavor at the start.

But it sounds like he's leaving Resonance and this is with a new venture with Cory Weeds. So maybe Resonance continues apace while this new venture with Left Bank recordings revs up.
-
here you go. http://home.earthlink.net/~eskelin/leftbank.html Time to dream, with a hope of having it come true. Since Zev loves Grant Green, how about 7-31-66 GRANT GREEN, guitar; HAROLD VICK, tenor sax; JOHN PATTON, organ; HUGH WALKER, drums

Ok this deserves a Holy Fucking Shit! Will be holy MF shit if it turns out some of the Hank tapes come out. This is like the holy grail of remaining known/suspected to exist recordings.

Listen up people: Two weeks ago I was shopping for dog food and found what I thought might work for Gracie who has major food allergies. THE ITEM WAS MARKED PRIME MEMBERS ONLY AND THIS WAS LONG BEFORE ANY PRIME DAY. NO "PRIME PRICE" AND NON-PRIME PRICE. PRIME CUSTOMERS ONLY CAN BUY THIS BAG OF FUCKING DOG FOOD. FUCK THAT, AND TWICE ON SUNDAYS. This is extortion. It's like a restaurant telling you that you have to sign up for their "Rewards" program to order a particular dish on the menu. and the minimum charge for the "rewards" is $10 a month. Amazon can do whatever the fuck they want with their Prime Day but as supermarket to the world they shouldn't withhold some items from anybody who won't pay them for the privilege of purchasing it.
-
I am not talking about taking advantage of any annual Prime sale. I've joined Prime when offered before the holidays and cancelled at the end of the free term. It's not gaming the system in any way shape or form. If anything their software should have recognized me before as someone who has used Prime for free trial periods only. I'm talking about items that are available ONLY to Prime members. That's extortion. There's no ifs ands or buts about it. There is no way for me to justify Prime membership when I buy from Amazon so infrequently.
-
Unless you've already used up your allotment of free offers. And what's this I've noticed, items that are only for sale to Prime members? That's a pile of BS right there.

I'm not at all clear on how the dry season equates to high humidity. Meteorology wise it just doesn't fit. I also have to say that in Naples, where Mom has lived for almost 4 years, there is still a distinct snowbird population and "season" still lasts until Easter or so. Naples traffic is way lighter in the off-season and much of those snowbirds go home to the Midwest, not northeast. The percentage of NY/NJ/CT etc license plates is way lower than in southeast Florida, even if more northeasterners are starting to move there instead of Miami.

Francis Wolff's BN productions post-Alfred Lion
Dan Gould replied to mjzee's topic in Miscellaneous Music
There is much to enjoy in the sessions Francis helmed. The Dexters in Europe, the Mobley dates as well. The other Morgan, Sixth Sense. I should try to listen to Caramba! again but I don't really think I am going to hear the same looseness of lack of preparation that the OP hears. -
If you wanted to be among your own (NYC metro people) then you'd have to move to Miami/Fort Lauderdale/Palm Beach but the further north you go the worst of the summer is less and less of the calendar. Not saying it won't be brutal, just that the brutality doesn't last as long into Fall. The panhandle has actual, legitimate seasons with winter featuring many cold snaps, some pretty severe (20s for many nights in a row). It's also interesting to have learned that even south of Gainesville there are a lot of differences in weather patterns. Tampa dries out earlier than south Florida and gets into the rainy season later. Where/when it rains is different too.

Say Happy Birthday to Randissimo!
Dan Gould replied to catesta's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
He doesn't seem to visit his own band's board anymore but say Happy Birthday to charter member of the band, Randy Marsh! -
I presume no one got the chance to ask, or Monk was too damn oblique about it if someone did ask, about how he viewed his tenor player. I am guessing that Rouse w. Monk wasn't any more popular among the cognoscenti than he is today. There must have been reviews and commentary about how pedestrian Rouse was, or ill-served the music, or just wasn't named Griffin, Coltrane or Rollins.
