  1. If it wasn't rape, Cali why did his roommate/teammate delete the cell phone video they made?
  2. In the never ending search for an effective diet, I eat every couple of hours. By 8 AM I've had a cup of yogurt (none of that over-hyped greek stuff, Publix makes a fine low fat product. Parenthetically, Coltrane gets to lick the cup and I always leave some extra in there. His favorites are blueberry and Lemon Chiffon. Around 10 or 10:30 I have a bowl of plain cheerios with a sliced banana.
  3. Couldn't care less what happens then ...I'll be glad he's out of the uniform and the school. In my heart of hearts I think the Tallahassee and campus police helped him, intentionally or not, to get away with rape.
  4. Just noticed this - Jesus Christ paps, the whole program "crafts" these players? Do you really think they've coached Winston to try to score on his own instead of making that pitch? The NYT series on how the Tallahassee police have dealt with football players' misbehavior was an eye opener and pissed the hell out of me, but that's the cops doing these things, not the program. Did the program make it happen? No, too many parts of society coddle athletes in too many ways. And if by chance you are only referring to self-centeredness or immaturity on the field, I'm pretty sure the team doesn't spend a lot of time encouraging that.
  5. I never really cared for his schtick but I have to say I changed my opinion of Mr. Scott after I read the Time's profile about how he was dealing with the disease and treatment, and in his obit I heard about his speech receiving the Jimmy Valvano award last year. RIP. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/12/sports/espn-anchors-private-battle-with-cancer-becomes-a-public-one.html
  6. Uh, I'm a graduate Paul so my interest is a little more than just parochial. And I don't understand your assertions about some of the turnovers. Every turnover is a takeaway. You either protect the ball or you don't. It doesn't take some special effort by the defense. A ball carrier holds onto and protects it, or he fails. FSU let it, the ball and the game, get away. Finally, yes, the Oregon offense was moving the ball. But so was the Seminole offense. The difference at the moment that FSU started collapsing, was Oregon scoring TDs and FSU settling for FGs. And yet they were only down 5. If FSU's offense executed, it's anyone's game. I don't know how anyone can rationally argue against that observation.
  7. FSU shouldn't have been in the playoff mix, IMO. I kept hoping week after week they'd drop a game and we'd be done with them. Nope. I don't think this new system would have gotten off to the right start if somehow a 13-0 defending national champion were kept out of the mix. I agree they could have, should have lost somewhere along the way but when they didn't, they had to be in there. And reality is that until FSU started taking steady aim at their own feet, this was anyone's game. They probably don't win unless the defense stepped up, but if I recall correctly, they were down 5 in the third quarter, with the ball, and were executing on offense. If they don't kill themselves with turnovers, I'd have laid even-ish odds that they pull out that game. Winston had done it all season long.
  8. I recently paid $40 for a used CD, but I justified it this way - Just before I got $50 in Visa gift cards thru a promotion from one of our vendors, so in my mind, by applying the gift cards to gas and food and nothing else, the CD didn't cost me anything. I probably would have bought it either way, but it did make it easier to click "buy it now".
  9. Then a logical sentence would be "Southern California didn't have as many clubs booking jazz and gigs were hard to come by." Doesn't have a damn thing to do with "grinding intensity".
  10. I'm surprised no one highlighted this gem: I mean what the hell does that mean? Living cheek-by-jowl in NYC is "conducive to bebop's grinding intensity?
  11. So two weeks in, where do we stand?
  12. That's intriguing MG but I don't think any of those people had much if any influence on this side of the pond. So how did Monty Python travel so easily to the States when it got here?
  13. There weren't very many at all but I'll have to go with the two opportunities to see living legends for the first time: Jimmy Heath & Benny Golson joined by Javon Jackson Dr. Lonnie Smith
  14. VLC Media player is good too.
  15. Well, 4 days, 69 views, one response. Message received: This sucker is fair game for my April BFT.
  16. But MG who wouldn't want a fashionably distressed bottom?
  17. Except when he started challenging women, then it got...out there. Then again, I think that Andy Kaufman at that point was doing, like, the Interstellar Space of comedy. But I'm pretty sure he started that character as the inter-gender champion. Then his friend Jerry Lawler got involved and the rest was wrasslin' history. He didn't start with Lawler then switch to women. So he was creepy and then not so much?
  18. I never perceived Andy Kaufman's wrestling persona to be creepy. Just a spot-on heel character.
  19. It's the Me Generation Lon, far more so than when that phrase first was used.
  20. I posted a short while ago in an older thread but decided maybe this deserved it's own. You may recall that we discussed a mystery Gene Harris 45 on the Stereo Gems label a while back. Original 45 discussion: Stereo Gems discussion: There was mention of another Gene Harris 45, Ballin' The Jack b/w I Love You and finally, I got a shot at nabbing this one. And, best of all, the seller habitually includes lengthy snippets from each 45 he posts. So you can tell me what you think of this latest aural evidence: Ballin' The Jack: http://www.carolinasoul.com/audioclips/4517825a.mp3 I Love You: http://www.carolinasoul.com/audioclips/4517825b.mp3 That first track sounds to me more like "the" Gene Harris than any track on his Jubilee recordings (the ones with the white guy pictured on the back) and more like Gene than the previous 45. What do you think? Post soon cause who knows how long those seller-hosted mp3 clips will be active.
