An Interesting Exchange on My Evening Walk
Dan Gould replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Jesus Christ the ignorance about Florida is appalling. I bet my liberal friends still think that young poet's book really was "banned" in Miami-Dade. Meanwhile, actual denial of first amendment rights are enforced by the current administration and there is a gigantic yawn. -
My youtube postings of recordings from Leonard Gaskin's Smithsonian archive led a saxophonist named Courtney Nero to reach out, specifically about photos and a recording of Cook with Cecil Payne and Ray Abrams, not that long before he died. Nero has been researching a book on Cook and just shared with me that Jazz Journal published an article based on his forthcoming book. Check it out. https://jazzjournal.co.uk/2023/07/15/junior-cook-quintessential-hard-bop-tenor/

MLB 2023: how ya like it now?
Dan Gould replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Probably not, I don't think. I was just blown away by the "rising" part of his slider - and thrown at a speed a lot of position player pitchers exceed, only 73 mph. But deception in the delivery and the "rise" it looks damn near unhittable. -

I've never heard of this guy but this is really slick. https://www.mlb.com/news/tyler-rogers-rising-submarine-slider?partnerId=zh-20230714-970645-mlb-1-A&qid=1026&utm_id=zh-20230714-970645-mlb-1-A&bt_ee=N3CgIBzQaSS771nFd0yA9kuwWtYzIawGHbe5FVNP4qUC1H9eVuuKj8EXWBw1HBmY&bt_ts=1689344703454 The rising slider. https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-images/image/upload/q_auto:best/mlb/pid8pwhidq90142mw9jn.mp4 -
The Truth is, Free Improvisation is Extremely Easy to Do....

Except aside from people like you who can do the math and recognize it, how many others can't possibly tell the difference? -
What? Is the post removed now?

Won't load, and I like it just fine. -
MLB 2023: how ya like it now?

Is anyone else like me and couldn't care less anymore about the All-Star game? Has nothing to do with the ill-fated tie game and subsequent changes, just ... who cares? I certainly don't and not at all like when I was much younger. -

Given what Carlin said about the purpose of baseball, "to go home," I am pretty sure everybody knows what it means to get runners all the way around the bases. No appeals to Jesus needed. (Except as an expletive after another AAA player waves at a sweepah that is 4 feet off the plate.) -

Yeah that was rough as I found out this morning since I went to bed on the pitching change before Hernandez's hit. But what else is new that teams need middle/late relief help at the deadline? I have no idea the state of the system for securing over-priced help in that area but I would think management would do what is necessary. -

How do you figure? -
I've never understood the desire among some for this sort of immersive, the-band-is-playing-around-you experience, when nobody experiences that except those actually on stage.

For those who are not a member of FB's Rare Jazz Photos group I assume this will be appreciated. C Sharpe and Hank Mobley. From Michael Weiss, location and year not given.

Given where it has been its made major strides in a short period. Tonight you get Bello, 6:10 your time and everybody can see what Boston has on MLB Network. They remain far away from the level that Texas is - and not winning a game after 7 but still having the record the Rangers do? Those might be the wins that lead to championships but that is also not a little related to flat out luck. The Red Sox have more come from behind wins than most teams and look where they are. -

That's quite an intriguing frontline ... If this Accardi person visits the O maybe he will explain how he got it and what might happen with it. -
Well, Thom, 1 got a big thumbs down from me but 2-11 were quite the streak of very enjoyable tunes (well 11 wasn't the greatest). As everybody knows I suck at guessing but after a lot of listening to both I am confident saying 6 is Arnett and 8 is Hank. (And wondering if you rethought 8 after Hank got used in June's BFT. Obviously not enough to replace it.) Thanks for the tunes.

I have never seen Wolff described as anything but partner, not employee. Whether it was exactly 50/50 and they did everything by consensus I don't know for certain, but I do think it was.

So it would be perfectly acceptable art if they only had the train running the other way ... OK I can agree it would be better that way. But I still like the subtlety of it and can only assume they are playing off of "Blue Train". Edit to add: I took my glasses off and can make out Blue Train under his name. So they just messed up on the train direction.

There are some who compare him to Pedro but I don't think the stuff is to that level. But he is maturing in real time, start to start and has been dealing, more or less, in most starts and certainly this one. (In his last seven starts his WHIP is 0.94) -
He's laying down a "Blue Train" - which is a lot hipper (not to mention subtle) than the people who misname the album as Blue Trane.

Damn your clue of "currently on tour" made me think of McPherson and I missed my chance to take a shot with that guess.

Wasn't really 7+ since first batter in the 8th broke it up. You gotta record an out to say 7+. -

Wow, what? The only bright spot on a crap roster still got beat, because, you know, crap. Waiting for the future to get to now is getting f-ing aggravating because it's the Red Sox not some garbage franchise without any assets. I am left to wonder what they will get for Paxton at the deadline, assuming he doesn't break down between now and then. -
Enough for Alfred to retire to Mexico but maybe not enough for Francis to retire himself? I guess the story is that Alfred had health issues and I guess Wolff wanted to keep working?
