  1. Hearing his breakthrough BN release 30 years (or whatever) ago was enough to tell me I didn't need to see him live.
  2. You don't need a Quadrophonic Blaupunkt, what you need is a curveball! -Crash Davis
  3. How hard is it to go here and upload whatever you want then copy/paste your (free) links into your O-post? https://imgbb.com/
  4. For my Organissimo friends not on FB, a just-discovered photo of Percy France and his daughter, sometime in the 80s at the West End Cafe. Her name is Niomi Renee and she posted a podcast about "absent Dads." I haven't listened yet but I was able to secure contact info and have reached out to her, waiting and hoping that she replies and can answer questions about what she knows or has been told about her Dad. Not to mention, more pictures if she has any.
  5. None of the above. Is the dog they started with even a Dacshund? It's like they just matched up general color and went with it.
  6. Which is on the West Coast - an advantage for some, theoretically. My order of the Philly Joe and Al Grey/Billy Mitchell took a bit longer than I expected and was from the US warehouse. Closer to two weeks. (And I really wish I had known of this release at the time as I would have definitely gone for it with the other two.)
  7. Well apparently I didn't look closely enough at the Al Grey/Billy Mitchell details. Disc 1 puts together live recordings issued by Argo. Al Grey-Billy Mitchell Sextet in it's entirety and 1/2 of Al Grey Snap Your Fingers. Both items I already own. Now it's on to the new radio broadcasts which of course have the usual warning about audible faults that can't be fixed, blah blah blah. Fingers crossed.
  8. Jordi's website https://www.freshsoundrecords.com/philly-joe-jones-albums/56771-live-at-birdland-historic-unreleased-1962-recordings.html https://www.freshsoundrecords.com/al-grey-billy-mitchell-albums/56637-sextet-septet-live-at-the-museum-of-modern-art-at-birdland-2-cd.html with shipping to the states I paid $30 or so.
  9. I received this and the Al Grey/Billy Mitchell thing and noticed an interesting credit at the end of the fairly extensive liners: "Compiled by Jordi Sunol" Huh? So he took from various sources without attribution? I guess it's part and parcel of his business model. Anyway, sound is listenable, drums pretty up front. I need to listen more carefully a couple of times but I have a feeling this will make some "best archival releases" lists. And about the Al Grey/Billy Mitchell, not noted before: I think they start with an issued Argo LP because they needed space on an extra CD for the entirety of the available broadcasts from Birdland. They start with three tunes, about 20 minutes, on disc 1 (after the Argo LP) and then fill disc 2. It's a lot of live performance by a great group and this may ultimately appeal most to me out of these two CD releases.
  10. Booty has one major thing to recommend it: The unissued Charles Williams recording of Willow. While for some unknown reason they list the whole group from the issued LP, the fact is that it is a great performance from his core group, featuring Bubba Brooks and Don Pullen and no one else. Its up on youtube for those interested.
  11. Good for you.
  12. you look thinner than the photo I've seen playing sax; is the cane a permanent thing or a temporary one? (Feel free not to respond.)
  13. Ah so that Part 3 was not issued in the series En Concert ... that makes some of this new to me.
  14. I thought that release was two discs but this shows three.
  15. Thanks, and thanks to Lon as well. I am looking into these.
  16. How exactly are they private? Studio sessions Duke paid for but were never issued? Unissued/rejected tracks from known LPs? Been listening to more Gonsalves lately and this makes me curious.
  17. That actually did work which still seems odd to me as modern browsers go where they should without the https and when I did I was getting same maintenance message as main webpage.
  18. I'll probably post on the FB group too but what is happening with Organissimo.org? Anyone going thru the main site can't get to the forum, and you won't get thru to organissimo.org/forum. Strange. And to Thom for pointing this out in a PM.
  19. I'll stick with January please.
  20. It's Webb City, you and Felser thru the end of the year.
  21. Curious if you came upon this, knew of it already, or were motivated to buy this release of the Big Reunion recording with Hawk and Webster among others by the recent discussion, as I was. On first listen it's a great record.
  22. It's the only one I own. (I mean Jarrett who rubs me the wrong way nine ways to Sunday.)
  23. I was going to say "Lucky Old Sun" opened my eyes to pre-fame singing - I heard it on a comp years ago.
  24. Breezin' was released in 1976. Can we conclude that it was BG's threat that made Benson turn to the pop side?
  25. So if Jordi did the recording of airshots from Birdland and put them out on FreshSounds that would make it fine? Kevin's point remains - only owners of labels were getting paid.
