  1. Nice job on the cake, John! Looks yummy .... but at the moment I'm all alone.
  2. That's cause you don't remember what I said originally: Look for the "Organissimo Birthday" thread at 12 PM EST March 6. Invitations aren't parties, you gotta go to the party! Typical men ... can't follow directions even in cyberspace. And you know they won't pull over and ask for help!
  3. Ok, its 12 Noon, EST, March 6, 2004, a day that shall be celebrated throughout the jazz BB world. On this day in 2003, the Blue Note Bulletin Board shut its doors and the exalted Organissimo Community was born! Happy Birthday, a big thanks to Jim for setting the place up and footing the bill, and thanks to everyone who has helped make this place such a great cyber hang! Long live the Organissimo BB!
  4. Y'all are in the staging area! Doors "open" in about 2 minutes!
  5. Up, for one final time. Three hours to make yourselves presentable, folks!
  6. Are you NUTS? Martha's fraudulent story was that she sold because the stock dropped below $60. Today's close for imclone: $47.85 THE 52 WEEK LOW FOR THE STOCK: $14.45!!!! This stock fell $45, or another SEVENTY FIVE PERCENT after Martha sold on an illegal tip from her stockbroker. She lied to cover up the tip. She made false statements and conspired to obstruct justice. No, it wasn't "insider trading" because she didn't hear directly from Sam Waksal that she better sell (Waksal just told all of his family members directly, he didn't give enough of a shit about Martha to tell her. All of them have pled guilty to insider trading, I believe.) The fact that the judge threw out the fraud charges is particularly bad news for Martha. Why? Because as brave and confident as her lawyer may sound, they have no grounds for appeal. There is no ruling the judge made that is reversible. The trial was clean and tidy and on the charges that the judge let stand, the evidence was compelling. Had the judge allowed the fraud charges to stay, here's what would have happened: The jury convicts. The appeal is successful, because it is a novel application of the statute, and each guilty verdict is tossed. Why? Because the conviction on the fraud charges made it easier for the jury to convict on all charges. Boom, Martha is "exonerated". Instead, she's got no grounds for appeal, and come June, she will be in the Lenora Helmsley wing of the Federal Correctional Facility in Danbury, CT, where she belongs. *********************** Let me tell y'all something about Martha, because I actually know her, or at least I have seen her in action, up close and personal. Long before she became "Martha Stewart," she was a caterer in Westport Connecticut. I worked for Taylor Rental in Wilton and had many occasions to deliver party supplies to her home. She was then, and I have no reason not to believe she is now, a bossy, snide, nasty, horrible, vicious and ugly woman (on the inside, where it counts). My mother has had multiple professional encounters with her, and her experiences are at least as bad as mine. How does she treat her employees now? Who gives a shit? I can tell you how she treats both "little people" and peers. It ain't pretty.
  7. Why did you post this article? Is it against the law for a 16 year old to get a car on her birthday? Should it be? Yes, "the rich are "different"-they're rich. Last time I checked, it was a free country.
  8. Mercer get a from me just for writing "Things Ain't What They Used To Be"
  9. Damn. If only the jump fell short.
  10. I resemble that remark. And henceforth I will not constrain anyone in anyway. In fact, you can count on a two-disc test for my next go-round, and quite possibly some cuts with questionable connections to jazz! So there! Nyah nyah nyah! Or as I prefer, nanny nanny poo poo!!
  11. I just got this in my in-box. Order now, supplies are limited!!! Its the Nail Pendant! "The “Nail” pendants come in two sizes and feature Isaiah 53:5 inscribed on the side. The 20" cord has a Nail pendant that is 1 7/8" in length and the 24" cord has a Nail pendant that is 2 5/8" in length."
  12. What: A Cyber Celebration of the Birth of the Organissimo Bulletin Board Where: Right here, silly When: 12 pm EST (that's GMT-5) Saturday March 6 Hope this isn't redundant, I just thought that a more specific thread title might serve as a better reminder that tomorrow's the day. Hopefully we can get a nice long list of members in one "place" at the same time, so be sure to sign in as yourself, not anonymously!! Once a group shows up, someone should do a screen shot and post the image. And don't worry, I'll bring the cake:
  13. I disagree with this. Whether he wants to be on the road or doesn't, he's a professional musician playing for paying customers. Its not exactly professional to berate your audience, unless, that is, you are Don Rickles. Knowing what I have heard about Jimmy, I would not go see him if he came to south Florida, because I don't need to pay good money to watch someone abuse his audience and possibly walk off for 1/4 or more of the set. Being an 80 year old legend who may not want to perform anymore doesn't give you carte blanche to yell "Fuck you!" to a teenage girl who yells out "we love you."
  14. When you consider its a European imprint, I think the price is better than the alternative. It is 25% off list, even if the list price seems high. Lets put it this way-if Borders priced Criss Cross at $14, would you pounce? There's a lot of good stuff in the Storyville catalog, if I had any excess cash flow after the house/moving expenses, I'd be all over this.
  15. Wesbed is correct about encryption, but with DSL or cable and no firewall, I believe it is trivial to access the computer and find out the password to the bank account. I'm sure that's how the guy stole the $$-by getting into the account using a stolen password, not by intercepting encrypted data packets.
  16. Anyone who has a "perpetually active" connection to the Internet without a firewall is inviting disaster, as your friend has now experienced. Cable or DSL=get yourself a firewall. Period.
  17. When I saw Jazzshrink's comment I was in total agreement. In fact, you might add another qualifier, that of best American singles band over the briefest time period. Their string of hit records only stretched about 2, 2 1/2 years, and its pretty amazing when you consider how many of them there were.
  18. The message I've gotten from the stories is that he's a drunken lout, given to berating his audience, sometimes not exactly putting out maximum effort (letting his sidemen play much more than he does) but, bottom line, he's still Jimmy Smith and you should go see him if you have the opportunity. Frankly, I'd rather listen to Back at the Chicken Shack.
  19. Up, for another reminder. Two days and counting!
  20. Here's the e-mail I got: THIS WEEK ONLY!! All Storyville Records CDs on sale for 25% OFF MSRP. Storyville Records was founded over 50 years ago by Karl Knudsen. Considered by many to be the Blue Note of Europe, the label has recorded some of the most influential and creative jazz and blues players in the world. Storyville's aim is to present a diverse catalog of jazz & blues from Denmark, Europe and the World. Copenhagen and its jazzclubs have lured many a U.S. jazzman, including Stan Getz, Oscar Pettiford, Kenny Drew, Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, Horace Parlan, Duke Jordan, Ed Thigpen, Doug Raney, Bob Rockwell, Chuck Israels, Thad Jones, Ernie Wilkins and more. This week, the entire Storyville catalog--nearly 400 titles--is 25% off, making the bulk of the catalog $14.23. Browse the entire Storyville Records label listing: http://www.allegro-music.com/label_search.asp?label=STC Lots of good stuff in there!
  21. Congratulations, Vic, and I hope you do stick around.
  22. In my opinion, she was obviously raised poorly and Peter is justified in being annoyed at her. I'd unload on her sorry, ungrateful butt. But then again, that's just me. And as you may know, I do have a reputation in these matters.
  23. You know, this sentence works with or without the accent. Nice story, Jim.
  24. Happy Birthday, John.
  25. Hans, Courtesy of Carmell Jones completist PD, I have his 1982 recording. In fact, Billie's Bounce was used on my Blindfold Test. Its a nice album, the Gainesville, FL bandmates acquit themselves very well even though they're just a "local band" in an area where country music dominates. Didn't know Strazzeri had an LP, I do like his previously unreleased session that came out in the Carmell Select.
