  1. @mjazzg with that hint from Randy above I bet you can get the album, especially if you approach from the collaborative angle. Also, I really think you can get track 7 too. And damn if George Winston has a duet record with Meryl Streep. Granted she’s reading, but still. The liners note Swallow is playing a bass guitar, which I took to mean an acoustic 4 string guitar rather than stand up contrabass. I’m no expert so please correct me if I’m wrong there.
  2. This is a collaborative effort I’d say…and actually, no violin present. Lol, I take it you’re not in the ECM fan club
  3. The man has good ears. Color me impressed to.
  4. Yeah, the Mosaic Condon/Freeman Decca/Commodore set. The Freeman material - and really just the trio stuff - is all I really enjoy there.
  5. I need to check those out. All of the Towner albums I have are older. For the most part, yeah. Once settled in though, I find those albums riveting. His sideman work on that Katche album doesn’t necessarily fit that mold however.
  6. LaFaro and…gulp, Williams Robert Johnson or Son House?
  7. Manu Katche’s Neighborhood is another good one. From ‘04 with Stanko. Charles Lloyd’s Mirror is damn fine too. A 2009 recording with Jason Moran
  8. It’s never been a focus of mine unfortunately. Thankfully there’s resources out there to remedy that.
  9. Oh yeah, archive.org is one of the best things ever online.
  10. Reading this Robert Johnson bio has me digging into all of this music anew. Big hole in my listening world for sure.
  11. Here’s at least one of the documentaries on Bussard mentioned in that article: and about 1.5 hours of some of his records:
  12. Always enjoy reading about Bussard and/or listening to those tunes…and watching him along with it. The enthusiasm gets me every time.
  13. Sucks I can’t copy/paste these album cover links via my phone so fuck it, just typing it out: NP Jorge Rossy’s ‘21 ECM album Puerta with Robert Landfermann and Jeff Ballard. Just bass, drums, vibes/marimba and some other percussion. Enjoying that interplay this AM.
  14. Looking forward to listening to the BN trio records although my favorite Lloyd albums are from his ECM catalog.
  15. Finally tried with this one and I couldn’t connect very well. A couple of songs were good but the “Americana” vibe is not my thing.
  16. Damn good album. Enjoyed it from start to finish.
  17. This is a good record
  18. Up Jumped the Devil about Robert Johnson. If you like music, you should read this book.
  19. If Face of the Bass was still around here, they’d probably keep this going beyond 2020…at least it would seem so. A good album from the last 2 years would include Jakob Bro’s Uma Elmo
  20. Anyone notice any changes?
  21. Right?! It’s a real outlier.
  22. Early week 2 summary: Coming a little early here because for some reason participation in this BFT is low. Not sure why but no matter, we’ll keep on truckin’ & trakin’: Tracks 1, 2, 5, & 6 have been completely ID’d Partial IDs for tracks 3, 4, 9 & 10 That leaves 7, 8, 11 & 12 with no IDs yet. Hate that this BFT is withering on the vine already but thanks to everyone who gave an ear and some thoughts! I enjoyed reading and discussing these songs with y’all.
  23. No worries! So a partial for track 3 as Bley and Peacock have been named. Any guesses on song/album?
  24. Indeed Bley on 3. I should've known Peacock would be a hint! None of those guys for 8. This song isn't the typical style of the sax player... A little before him...they were contemporaries then...but not Hank Jones.
