  1. As you get older you tend to see at least a little "derivative" in just about everything. She's also in her early 30s, so she'll develop her style even more.
  2. That's the best way to have this album as reportedly all digital versions are from a needle drop. Correct, no RVG for this one (that I know of).
  3. I'll be checking out every Chico album this streaming platform has to offer. This one with Coryell is excellent.
  4. Hate I missed it but I don't typically watch Fallon...here's the link I think: Jimmy says it was written specifically for the show, which makes the lyrics really interesting...
  5. Is John Surman the sax player you mention? I'm also wondering if that's him on bass clarinet on track 7? That's an interesting song btw. Kind of an off-kilter boogaloo track with the drummer providing some cool interplay. The guitar on 8 is so out of place to my ears in terms of style, sound and how the track is mixed. I keep thinking it would be better as just a trio with bass, drums and sax. Is it Charles Lloyd on sax?
  6. Really wish I could go. Line up and venues definitely look better than the Smooth Jazz Cruise!
  7. The new Reincarnation of a Love Bird is part of the Ultra Vybe/mono reissues correct? Just want to make sure as the DG link doesn't say and I don't see Ultra Vybe mentioned on CD Japan's link. I'm assuming so but just verifying...
  8. Of these two, El Chico is my preferred album.
  9. Wow - talk about serendipity then! Glad you're enjoying it.
  10. Those Freeman Trio tracks on Mosaic’s Condon & Freeman Decca and Commodore set are what I love about that box.
  11. Well, I'm wondering if you stumped everyone...
  12. More Hamilton. Euphoric and Revelation have some overlap with a few songs but no objection from me. Falling in love with this stuff. Going back a few decades now for this one:
  13. Ok, and I see that Schnittke wrote the score...nice.
  14. Chico Hamilton's Revelation from 2011. This one isn't in Discogs for some reason, and was hard to find on All Music. All About Jazz review is here. So far, of the late Hamilton's I've listened to this one is my favorite. Band includes Paul Ramsey, Nick Demopoulos, Evan Schwam, Mayu Saeki, and Jeremy Carlstedt. After this one, I went to: But the transition sucked and I couldn't get into it. Going back to some Chico for now and will try this again later.
  15. I love disc 3 from this one for some reason. Great set though.
  16. I'm not sure I'm following this correctly - are you saying that Roney would turn his back when photographers would try and take photos in the studio based on what things he misunderstood from Miles?
  17. Yeah, although it's hard to draw the line between some of the hard core punk and heavy metal these days but those communities are full of DIY enthusiasm. A friend of mine has and still loves/uses his mini-disks. I completely missed the boat as by that time I was using a portable Sony CD player and all music money was going toward keeping that tray active. I made mix tapes up until about 2003/2004 but probably stopped buying new cassettes in the mid-90s once I got that CD player. I didn't miss cassettes at all and when I got a car with a CD player in it, I never looked back (a CD-R capable player helped with that transition as well). I have no real nostalgia for cassettes at all, and streaming has dimmed my perception of CDs in a major way. I was already burning them into my iTunes and loading them on an iPod anyway for playing in the car and on walks. Goal this year is to seriously cull the CDs I have...hopefully I get the time to do it.
  18. A small, local record label specializing in punk currently produces many of their acts on cassette, and has done so for years. It's a trait that seems endemic within that DIY genre. I also notice those labels on Squidco that produce cassettes for the AV/noise improv artists/groups regularly sell out. There are definitely some tape enthusiasts out there.
  19. More late work from Chico Hamilton. This one released in '09 and again with Paul Ramsey on bass. Rest of the work done by Ian Young, Jack Kelso, Eddie Barbash, Evan Schwam, Gary DeNigris, Jeremy Carlstedt, George Bohanon and Jose James.
  20. I almost feel bad for the people who think they need to have these records so bad that they're paying arms & legs for them. Almost.
  21. I definitely don't have any guesses on artists, and guessing the theme will take another listen. Overall, good tunes & mix (great bass playing pretty much all the way through). Most were long-ish and took their time to develop. The first one really set the tone as I would guess it takes patience and good control over the clarinet to channel that type of expression. The only misses for me were the fourth track with the voices and the guitar tone on track 8. Thanks for putting this together.
  22. Bengals started dropping 8 back with a shadow on Mahomes in the 2nd half. Chiefs offense didn't/couldn't adjust. The lack of a quality rushing attack was definitely a weakness that got exposed.
  23. I saw a lead that he may have played bass for Kirk Franklin, so if that's the same guy then those may be accurate as well.
