  1. I've been looking around at stuff from Greg Osby, Gary Thomas and Steve Wilson but can't find any matches. Trying to stay "newer" than Joe Farrell. Other than those guys, I can think of Azar Lawrence as someone who would switch from flute to soprano. Fathead would be before Joe F.'s time so not guessing him (oh, and Don Rendell too)
  2. Another excellent comp, even though Jet Star isn't the greatest label.
  3. yeah, who'd have thunk it?
  4. And now: Disc 1 of this fantastic comp.
  5. Check this out: https://www.arts.gov/honors/jazz/list Winners get $25K and they put on a concert. Would love to see Hart live. Of note, and correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like anyone can nominate artists for this. I can't find who actually votes on winners though.
  6. Watched Wonder Woman 1984 last night. Terrible movie. These superhero movies are really great demonstrations of overwrought propaganda.
  7. This morning's dog walk had Jane's Addiction's Nothing's Shocking as the soundtrack. NP: Canadian bootleg with the demo version of Natural Mystic which is excellent.
  8. From my collection. Image fits a Jack Johnson theme since he's in the ring, while the ties to the Prestige material are slim to none.
  9. Oliver Lake is another possibility. Whoever it is sounds like they're pushing some serious air through that soprano. Listened to this song about 4 times this morning and it gets better each time.
  10. Bennie Maupin? Although I can't find anything in his discography that would match this track.
  11. Long shot on #10 here but is it Karl Berger on vibes?
  12. I saw that. Some great pics included among their cover designs though.
  13. I think financial matters are important, but they also should be woven into the story to support the overarching theme/narrative. Just throwing out figures isn't interesting. The subsequent effects of those earnings (or lack thereof) on the artist and their band and perhaps the related motivations these finances provided help tell the whole story.
  14. Scrolling through his credits on discogs now and making a list... Your comment got me excited about him possibly being on the Mosaic Condon Commodore/Decca set (which I have) but negative...
  15. @soulpope those are some outstanding albums!
  16. Mousey Alexander on drums. Wow! Anyone know much about him? This is my first time hearing him play and he's bringing it 100%.
  17. Re-listening this morning and am really enjoying these songs. Track 10 which I don't think has been ID'd yet is very good.
  18. Nah, never bothers me unless the vocals aren't good.
  19. First this morning (early start here): Regardless what you think of Abercrombie; Surman, Gress & DeJohnette bring it on this one. Great album. Then: The Bee Hive box proving to be a great ROI because this album is fantastic. And now: Sipping coffee in prep for a PT appt in a little while which will include some dry needling. Take care of your back, folks.
  20. Nice. Thanks for the insight
  21. Differing thoughts on this after revisiting? NP: Finishing up my first listen to this set by way of CDs 3 & 4. Incredible stuff from both of these bands. Extremely happy I picked this up. Anyone rec the UCLA set from Sunnyside?
  22. I can name more McMaster titles that I like than dislike, that's for sure. I missed all the controversial hoopla back in the day and am thankful for that.
  23. Is Lewis playing an electric piano in the beginning there? Unreal the mood these guys could create with just a quartet.
