  1. That Jesse Helms entry has to be satire, correct?
  2. Saw Branford come out and play a couple of songs with Dave Matthews (yeah, I know) which was totally unexpected. Show was this past Friday in Raleigh. Branford lives, at least part time, in Durham so I'm guessing Dave hit him up to come out and jam a bit. Sound wasn't good at all at the amphitheater, esp in the cheap seats. But he got a good reception from the crowd before, during and after playing.
  3. HBD to a Great. If you haven't picked up his Jazz Dance Suites album from 2019, which I think is his most recent release, I definitely recommend it: https://charlesmcpherson.com/jazz-dance-suites/
  4. Just about all collectibles have seen sharp spikes in value these last 1.5-2 years. Definitely an avenue to wash money.
  5. Thanks for this rec. Enjoyed the '46 Carnegie Hall show so much that I'm looking for some good First Herd comps/shows, etc.
  6. I missed that Mars set. Glad to have this one though. Wonder how much if any they were able to improve the SQ here?
  7. Nice! Now: AllMusic review made me think this wasn't going to be so good due to SQ issues but it's really not a factor. The music is incredible.
  8. Well son of a...
  9. Ok, not listed on discogs, which I understand isnt the end all be all of listings. But is it a needle drop?
  10. Oh, snap. I've had that in my basket over at AS for a while now, just havent pulled the trigger (no idea if it's even in stock at this point). Great record and Bias must keep a tight hold on his masters as I dont see this anywhere digitally.
  11. I've been looking around at stuff from Greg Osby, Gary Thomas and Steve Wilson but can't find any matches. Trying to stay "newer" than Joe Farrell. Other than those guys, I can think of Azar Lawrence as someone who would switch from flute to soprano. Fathead would be before Joe F.'s time so not guessing him (oh, and Don Rendell too)
  12. Another excellent comp, even though Jet Star isn't the greatest label.
  13. yeah, who'd have thunk it?
  14. And now: Disc 1 of this fantastic comp.
  15. Check this out: https://www.arts.gov/honors/jazz/list Winners get $25K and they put on a concert. Would love to see Hart live. Of note, and correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like anyone can nominate artists for this. I can't find who actually votes on winners though.
  16. Watched Wonder Woman 1984 last night. Terrible movie. These superhero movies are really great demonstrations of overwrought propaganda.
  17. This morning's dog walk had Jane's Addiction's Nothing's Shocking as the soundtrack. NP: Canadian bootleg with the demo version of Natural Mystic which is excellent.
  18. From my collection. Image fits a Jack Johnson theme since he's in the ring, while the ties to the Prestige material are slim to none.
  19. Oliver Lake is another possibility. Whoever it is sounds like they're pushing some serious air through that soprano. Listened to this song about 4 times this morning and it gets better each time.
  20. Bennie Maupin? Although I can't find anything in his discography that would match this track.
  21. Long shot on #10 here but is it Karl Berger on vibes?
  22. I saw that. Some great pics included among their cover designs though.
  23. I think financial matters are important, but they also should be woven into the story to support the overarching theme/narrative. Just throwing out figures isn't interesting. The subsequent effects of those earnings (or lack thereof) on the artist and their band and perhaps the related motivations these finances provided help tell the whole story.
