  1. Tony = always crankable!
  2. Ask the Ages: the 2x45rpm set from Hive Mind. Sound is excellent. Read some poor reviews on discogs and the VMP subreddit but I don't find any faults with this mastering or pressing because I get totally lost in the music when I play this. It says "Play Loud" on the cover, and indeed that is good advice.
  3. This is brilliant stuff, inspired playing and good sound.
  4. Same here. For a studio album that time is perfect
  5. There's probably an equal balance of insight/info with trash, but it's pretty active regardless. Nice to see enthusiastic younger musicians and listeners from all over the world talk about this music.
  6. The online equivalent of the used bins really seems to inflate prices. If you ran across one of these CDs at your local it likely would be under $10.
  7. I'm surprised that Vick LP is still in print. I thought it's popularity would've had it sold out by now...speaking of which I'm betting that Rouse LP on preorder right now goes quickly.
  8. Yeah, it's really difficult for me to budget for LPs at $35+ if it's basically the same as a cheaper CD alternative. I love what PP is doing and have a few of those Strata East records but was able to pick them up cheaper than retail. I'm not into LPs for strictly audiophile reasons (as I don't consider myself one), and I would pick this up for around $25 no problem. So here I am, a cheapskate waiting for a sale. I listened to Steadfast and felt the same as you did. If I were to get one of these, it would be Hells Bells.
  9. Dexter's One Flight Up & Hill's Passing Ships have to be set up as huge sellers within this line. Both are preorder right now. Anyone going in for them? I have Passing Ships on CD so may skip that one. But I don't have OFU in any format, but frequently stream and love Tanya. Betting that's going to sound really good on this reissue.
  10. Frank Wess is a badass flautist and this album has some nice cuts of him demonstrating that.
  11. Been a long time since this thread was started (gotta love how much product B&N used to actually carry!), but Pure Pleasure reissued his Strata East records Hells Bells and the solo Steadfast. I really dig Hells Bells but those PP LPs carry a premium price tag so I haven't picked it up yet. Wondering if there's really much of a difference between that LP and the Charly CD since that LP is likely not AAA. Or hells bells, maybe I'll just keep streaming it.
  12. Played this LP last night. Very good IMO, both in terms of playing and SQ. 20 minutes of Cheese Cake as well.
  13. Last night, played these albums: Strut's LP of Planets of Life or Death and ORG's Calling Planet Earth. Heartily recommend both. Heavy percussive grooves on that ORG album which was recorded in December of '71 in Denmark. Meanwhile, the over 17 minute Love in Outer Space from the Life or Death LP is worth the price of admission. Maybe a dumb question, but has anyone ever played all of the Discipline tracks in numerical sequence all together? Does it end up being a cohesive suite?
  14. Last night was a bit of a marathon session: And then a couple of Sun Ra LPs and Miles albums...then this morning: And finally, currently back on some Duke - playing Disc 2 of this set:
  15. Excellent. Good insight. Nevertheless I ordered both available sets as the material just isn't as readily available elsewhere (Intergalactic & Sun Embassy). I learned these LPs are mastered for vinyl and cut by Carl Saff from tapes transferred by former Arkestra drummer Michael Anderson from his personal collection. I'm always happy to support grassroots labels putting in the work.
  16. Ah, I missed another Ra LP from Roaratorio, Other Strange Worlds, which is also OOP. From what I can tell the material this label released doesn't really appear anywhere else, at least anywhere that's really accessible. These seem to fly under the radar while Strut and Modern Harmonic get more pub.
  17. Anyone have either of the LP sets that Roaratorio put out that are still in print: The Intergalactic Thing or Sun Embassy? Good vinyl quality? Albums pulled from tapes during the Philly era so the music's good I'm sure. Their other one, Sign of the Myth went OOP quick as it was one of the forsaken Impulse sessions...
  18. The Ludwig-cut LP of this album is outstanding.
  19. From what I've read, Sonny really took care of himself. Early morning meditation sessions, no late nights, limited to no substances etc. Reaching 90 years for a jazz musician that lived through those early eras is really a feat. Here's hoping his health stays good for many years to come.
  20. Winter Hill Mosaica IPA. 6.8 abv. Gift from a friend that lives in MA. Good stuff.
  21. Those are the 2 Resonance Evans releases I didn't get. I stuck with the DeJohnette sets, of which Another Time was my favorite of the two. Gomez, of course, is ubiquitous across them all.
  22. I guess I should qualify "funky" as in "funky for Morell." It was unexpected from my perspective. Not a bad drummer, but on this one he seemed to let loose a little more.
