  1. Armstrong "selling out" just seems like a controversy that doesn't exist now, or at least doesn't need to exist.
  2. What happened to that Black & White set again? Weren't there plans for that which ended up being scrapped? I see above it was back-burnered...
  3. It sold out from what I understand. They didn't press as many - basically a modified on-demand model - and it was popular. I'm not sure how long they were able to secure the rights to it either. I do see where it's not listed in their Out Of Print sets, but I'm wondering if that's just because they haven't updated that page on their (outdated) site.
  4. Thanks for the detective work here. Searched around the New World website and saw nothing about it. On board when it happens.
  5. Adding Ritual Trio albums now...
  6. Hmmm...Ari Brown??? I've already got 2 on my want list from him due to earlier BFTs. And if it's not him, I'm guessing Roscoe Mitchell. And then I've got to go listen to this track again.
  7. Thanks. This is helpful.
  8. No, that 60s set starts with his material from '63.
  9. FWIU, CD-Rs can be problematic as they age as they can have advanced deterioration. Also, if one holds onto CDs in hopes of future re-sell (at loss or gain), then you have that option. CD-Rs basically have no resale value. I think the main issue with CD-R production is the lack of transparency about their use on the part of sellers. Those who sell them and openly state they're CD-Rs - fine, and the buyer can make an educated purchase. No disclosure results in unhappy customers who were expecting a different type of product.
  10. I've never ordered from Omnivore but they have some excellent reggae albums in stock from the Nighthawk label. And I'm wondering about those Ru-Jac comps too...
  11. Next up after Wilson. Baker's pairing with George Coleman.
  12. Via CD instead of cassette however. All the talk in the Mosaic thread about Teddy Wilson influenced me to play this. One half Wilson solos, the other with the great Edmond Hall Quartet.
  13. RIP. Not much of a country fan but his singing can entrance. He also tends to have a lot of pedal steel on his songs, which is always a nice touch.
  14. Read the review for Alligator Bogaloo...lol. This guy hates some Lou D funk, even stating that Leo Morris AKA Idris Muhammad isn't comfortable playing contemporary funk
  15. That review is hilariously bad.
  16. Damned if Brubeck's paperboy (!) didn't leave a comment too. Coming out of the woodwork.
  17. I so regret not getting this during the Target 3 for 2 sale earlier this year. His tone on this record is amazing. Via the recent Yep Roc deluxe CD reissue.
  18. Whoa! That should include the Blue Boye album correct?
  19. hatOLOGY is another great label.
  20. Which of these BN albums would you say are your favorites?
  21. Check out some Archie Shepp stuff from the 80s & 90s. Art Farmer was still recording then too, and Blame It On My Youth is a good one. Also check out Sam Rivers' Lazuli which is more inside stuff, but I'd also recommend anything he was doing during this time.
  22. Searching by label could help. Some really good releases were on Black Saint, Soul Note, AUM & ECM, at least in my limited exposure to 90s jazz. In particular albums from Muhal Richard Abrams, Julius Hemphill, Tim Berne, Matthew Shipp, Bill Frisell and Kenny Wheeler come to mind. Regarding Jackie McLean, I love some of his later output. Rites of Passage is a good one. But the best one that comes to mind is Sonny Sharrock's Ask the Ages from '91. A classic in every sense, with some nice vinyl reissues coming within the past year.
  23. 32 Jazz - what a great budget reissue label
