  1. Signify is back on EMusic, now as the two-CD "Special Edition". The special editions of "Coma Divine" and "Stupid Dream" are also there.
  2. 25. :rsmile: Look again. Huh? Did you buy two copies, Ron??
  3. I wonder if any of these chess babes also play trombone... now THAT would be HOT!!
  4. Holy crap, Agg, that's a good deal... if I ever saw that set for $50, it would be a no brainer.
  5. Me, too, on both counts.
  6. Anybody familiar with this one? Steve Lacy / Mal Waldron - Live in Berlin '84 (Jazzwerkstatt) Recorded live at Jazzbuhne, Berlin, June 15, 1984. Steve Lacy (soprano sax); Mal Waldron (piano) Improvisation Blinks A Flower Is A Lovesome Thing Snake Out Epistrophy
  7. I'm just amazed by the HUGE sound that Swell gets out of that trombone, even when it's pointed towards the floor. Filled up the entire room... heck, I think it could have filled a room 10 times that size, easily. That drum solo on "For Grachan" is outstanding! Thanks for another great show, Lazaro, and for bringing these great musicians to West Michigan.
  8. Some lucky bastard picked up that set for $60... not bad... I wish I had jumped on it. Willisau went for $109.16!! Oh, and welcome to the board, Scott. There's been lots of interesting discussions about Braxton's music here, stick around and join in! Anthony Braxton, what do you think?
  9. Will be tuning in (or taping)... looks like a great show, Lazaro. I'm particularly interested in hearing the tracks from the 2007 Grand Rapids show -- I was sitting less than 10 feet from Barry, and it was truly a memorable experience. "Those are my hands on those records!". On a personal note, it was Altschul's playing that led me to dig (much) deeper into Braxton, with a few gentle nudges from Chuck, as well. Nice photo, Tom!
  10. I used to have a man card, but it was permanently revoked when I admitted to liking Tori Amos.
  11. Glad I got "Signify" before it disappeared. I downloaded "Up the Downstair" a few days ago, and really like it. Definitely different than their later stuff -- a little lighter, more ethereal and melodic. eMusic also now has The Sky Moves Sideways (Special Edition):
  12. I've "almost" bought this more than a few times... heard parts of it on a "Rodcast", and liked what I heard. Expensive set, but still tempting.
  13. Thanks Red & Rupert... will be preordering that one!
  14. Dang, I really want that record, but I'm not going to get sucked into a bidding war. Hopefully, it will be reissued sooner or later.
  15. Well, sometimes I make "Tuba Sounds" and "Easterly Winds" after drinking too much beer... does that count??
  16. It means your body is worth $4729 and your snake ate a golf ball, but you don't like Oscar Peterson. And I also believe that we all have a moral mandate to love trombones!
  17. I also got 8 of 9, but I'm an atheist parent that lives in Michigan but doesn't eat at buffets, and has never had sex with a robot. What does that mean???
  18. If you don't wear that to the next organissimo show, I'm gonna kick your ass! I'd consider that under one condition: you guys do a cover of a Triumph tune. In the very unlikely event you don't know any Triumph tunes, a Loverboy cover would also be acceptable. And don't even think about telling me you don't know any Loverboy tunes, 'cause I already know you do!
  19. I also saw Aldo Nova, must have been 1985 or so. Don't recall much about it, other than a friend passing out during the concert from drinking most of a fifth of Kessler's mixed with a Seven-Eleven Coke "Big Gulp". Damn Yankees (yes, the "super group" with Nugent, Tommy Shaw from Styx, and that dude from Night Ranger) Starship (yes, that Starship, the creators of that truly classic song "We Built This City" ) Triumph (multiple times, "Allied Forces" and "Never Surrender" tours, IIRC) Like my friend Al, didn't even get laid. Probably still have my Triumph concert tee-shirt around here somewhere, so I guess that makes up for it!
  20. I initially thought this was a thread about AC/DC!
  21. I'll always love Zep for nostalgic reasons, if nothing else, and there are some really great tunes. But, when I first heard Robert Johnson (especially Traveling Riverside Blues), things changed. "Blatant" was the word that came to mind.
  22. I was always partial to "Traveling Riverside Blues"... This had more to do with its somewhat mythical status circa 1984 than the music itself. It had never been released on any of Zep's albums, and people that claimed to have heard it said it was _unbelievably_ great. IIRC, it was the B side of the "Whole Lotta Love" 45. The guy that had a copy was the hero of the dormitory that year.
  23. Skid, what is on that one besides the three Aladdin LPs? Are there any alternate takes? I ask because I have the CD of the second Aladdin LP which has alternate takes (I think) from the first LP; and although I like it a lot, I don't feel like springing soon for a Select of which I already own a third. I'm not sure, but I think all of the alternate takes on this set are also on the CDs of the Aladdin LPs. Disc two contains five selections from Bill Perkin's Just Friends. Track listings here. This is all new to me, so I'm glad to have it.
