It's funny, I generally hate the clarinet, but I really dig the bass clarinet (Dolphy and Rivers especially). I also have little to no use for the flute, violin, and/or tuba in most instances... although sometimes they do the job. Funny, two of my favorite instrument tones are the clarinet and bass clarinet.

Good to hear that Wazoo is still around. I shopped there a lot in 1978--81. Back then, I also shopped at the Wazoo in Madison, Wisconsin, owned by the brother of the guy who owned Wazoo in Ann Arbor. I wish I could support them more. Great store.

Encore Recordings, PJs Used records, Wazoo, Underground Sounds, and of course the flagship downtown Ann Arbor Borders.

I notice the Kuhn and the Wolcott have credits for "voice"-just how much "voice" is on these? (and yes, I know, Jarrett should be credited for voice too!)

I'm thankful for Encore Recordings in Ann Arbor. I was shocked and speechless when I recently brought Anthony Braxton/Matt Bauder 2+2 Compositions up to the counter to buy and the guy at the counter (who looked maybe 25 at the most) not only was aware of who the artist was, but also mentioned that he knew Bauder and another person on the record (can't remember which one it was now) when they lived in Ann Arbor, and of course he highly recommended the CD! You don't get that on ebay.

Some big hitters escaping from the likes of Columbia...
GregK replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Re-issues
I know, no need to act like a schoolteacher. I was actually responding to GregK's post, who seemed to be under the impression that they were all Columbia titles. Sorry, maybe I should have said "the likes of Columbia"?? Geez, we all understand each other here, don't we? -

How do they do this if Columbia stills holds the master tapes? -

Dr Pepper issues challenge to Guns N' Roses
GregK replied to dave9199's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I was actually subjected to the torture that is Guns and Roses at work yesterday. Truly awful, terrible stuff. If it took 15 or whatever years for that, maybe they should have let it stew for another 30, 40 years -
Giving some credence to my random, unsupported theory that the reason it's taken so long to reissue this one is Werner couldn't figure out how to fit four discs into one of the orange hatOLOGY sleeves. I wonder if it, er...they, will be out in 2009? Well, the Steve Lacy/Mal Waldron 4-disc set fits in two sleeves encased in a slip-cover. Why not repeat that packaging?

That's got to be contrabass s on Tk 4, Opus 40P! I hadn't heard this Duets album with Muhal Richard Abrams. This is great! Abrams has to be one of a handful of pianists who could do that tune without laughing a bit. The duets might be my favorite pieces from the entire set. It's hard to beat the quartet stuff but I'm probably listening to the duets more than anything else so far.

Nice! I was going to get this at Borders but missed out (it was available in one of the Ann Arbor stores for about a week or so)

You sure about that '95 winner? I seem to recall that the Baltimore team did not have an official name, because part way through the season they were forced to drop their original name ("Colts") so they were known for the rest of the season as "CFLers", or "CFL club".

Montreal 38 Calgary 32, total of 70 points

Yeah, they pulled them back in May.

Organissimo reviewed in Downbeat

I wish they would drop the simplistic star rating system. -
Amen. I've never understood the appeal of "the poor man's Springsteen"

Anyone have trouble with orders from Jazz Loft?
GregK replied to peterintoronto's topic in Miscellaneous Music
same here. I'm thinking it has everything to do with Customs. When I lived in Canada it took FOREVER for orders to reach me. I wouldn't even start looking in the mailbox until a full month had passed. -
Happy birthday Paul!
