  1. If I had any money I would be buying more (including your reissues, Chuck). I'm barely able to afford paying my bills right now. But, at least locally, there's not much available even if I could buy CDs, and that's with three Borders stores (which used to carry a lot of jazz beyond the usual basics).
  2. Liner notes are always a good thing. Why just ECM though? I'd appreciate them with all jazz releases.
  3. man is Fripp ever milking his past! He just put out 30th anniversary edition CDs of all of these 8-10 years ago. Now it's time to repackage them with surround sound? I've never understood the attraction of surround, so it looks like I'm passing on these.
  4. Exactly what I've always thought about that era. Actually, it strikes me as gimmicky.
  5. so, what have you learned? About the awesome-ness of the Monkees? The brilliance of latter-day Macca? How to turn every single thread into a discussion about the Beatles? There are some good things discussed at that forum but the amount of dreck is astounding.
  6. I still enjoy Jarrett but I can understand why you feel this way. If I had to put my finger on 'what's wrong' with Jarrett I would have to say that his trio format is stale. He needs to play with different musicians in a different setting. I'm not sure I'd use the word stale...there are still great beauties to be heard. It's just that you more or less know what to expect. Listening to the recent Jarrett catalogue is a bit like walking through a museum with gallery after gallery of wonderful porcelain. It eventually becomes 'Oh, another lovely vase!' I agree - it would be great to hear him with other musicians. Preferably some unknowns rather than a superstar session. Yes. Please, do something besides solo piano or the standards trio. All great, but time for a change. Or at the very least, do some more free stuff with the trio.
  7. Nope, only two. You're thinking Canterbury? That was only in the DVD and Blu-Ray set.
  8. I'm not willing to drop that much cash on something with such a minimal amount of unreleased music. The video portion does not interest me at all (I've watched my other music DVDs maybe once, some not all the way through even once). Maybe if the next volume has more unreleased music I'd go for it.
  9. I agree. And don't even get me started on Conan. I just don't understand his appeal AT ALL. These kids and their comedians..
  10. this has been around for at least 4-5 years. Family Guy has already incorporated it. I wonder what that kid is doing now.
  11. my favorite Costello since Delivery Man, which may be my favorite of all the Costello albums.
  12. I'm in if he's remembering the first 2,3 albums and forgets the rest.
  13. He was certainly talented and was a key member involved in their rise away from being the second best alt-country band to form from Uncle Tupelo, but for my own tastes, I preferred Wilco without him. I like their first album (when they were actually alt-country) and their work with Nels Cline. The Bennett years were way too poppy, Beach Boys-ish melodic for me. Shame that such a talented guy died so young though.
  14. I agree with what you say about the use of his voice on the new one, but there was nothing wrong with Modern Times either. The new one is a different sound than his last few, mainly due to the excellent guitar playing of Mike Campbell, and the accordion, but I think it fits in nicely with Love and Theft and Modern Times.
  15. Sorry if it offends, but I'm glad it's gone. I wish they would take it off syndication too; I completely hate that show, especially that curly-haired weiner who makes all the faces. I can't even stand it when I happen to land on when I'm changing channels.
  16. yes, she is, but she's also wicked skinny.
  17. Wow, I've lost count. How many times has Chris left with a big burst of drama? This is at least the third, maybe fourth?
  18. what does YMMV mean? you crazy kids and your internets lingo....
  19. why do they start the season so early? I love baseball, but the season is just too long. It shouldn't start until late April or even May. It's snowing here today, also in Chicago, I think Cincinnati is also getting snow.....just dump the foolish interleague games and cut the season down a bit and it would be almost perfect!
  20. Aw man, don't be. I mean, I dig and respect Brian, but hell, sometimes you just gotta call him on his bullshit, just so he knows that you know, if you know what I mean That's his name?
  21. I reiterate.... Manga is an extremely popular form of Japanese comics that took off in Japan just after WWII and caught on in America around the early 80's. ® huh. Guess I missed that trend, as I've never heard of it or noticed it's popularity. But if that is what Borders is turning to instead of CDs, then I'm getting off the bus now.
