  2. 50? I say 100%
  3. is this real? I've never heard of or seen this
  4. you could stay at the Campus Inn downtown Ann Arbor and enjoy yourself at the CD and book shops before heading out to the show. It's probably about 45 min or so (maybe a little longer) from Ann Arbor to that area of Detroit on I-94
  5. something almost exactly the same was posted yesterday at AAJ, too
  6. in this, the year of the Monk/Coltrane discovery, the Dizzy/Parker discovery, the release of the Coltrane at the Half-Note, we are discussing the "jazz" album by Justin guarini??
  7. good question! Anyone?
  8. still more expensive than yourmusic once the S&H is added
  9. I don't know- I still am afraid to even put the discs in my computer, and I've had it for a week now
  10. have a happy birthday!
  11. Agree 100% with this. His playing on this box set is unlike anything else I have heard him play.
  12. Finally got Larry Kart's Jazz in Search of Itself book! Thanks, Santa (you know who you are!!)
  13. If you're a Jarrett fan, I'm sure you'll love the set. If you're not (count me in), you might find yourself wishing someone else, like Herbie Hancock, would be at the keys. To hear a Miles electric band this stripped down is exciting, but Jarret isn't a fav of mine and I just find what he's doing too much against the grain. Anti-groove. Anti-band. I dig some of where he's going at points. But he hates what the bass player is doing and you can tell. He's fighting where the rest of the band is going. Some might like the tension that makes, perhaps Miles was one. Just my feeling when I listen. I'm sure all others will disagree. well, you are aware that Miles told Henderson to ignore what Jarrett was doing, right? He wanted them to play against each other. It's not like Jarrett was "fighting" the rest of the band. That's what Miles wanted, without telling him. It's all in the booklet
  14. anyone know why this isn't the "Complete Cellar Door Sessions"?
  15. huh-for me, Jarrett is the most essential player. His solos are the most interesting (at least after one time through the whole set)
  16. Anyone?
  17. I have to add the Miles Davis Cellar Door box to the list. This is much better than I was expecting
  18. overhype I can understand. But how does that take away from their obvious talent?
  19. What exactly is wrong with either player? I happen to think they are both very talented improvisers
  20. I thought it felt like leather
  21. It took me repeated attempts before I found the new release on the zappa site.
  22. Exactly!
  23. no number, probably because it doesn't fit with the rest of the series as it is a live set, like the Plugged Nickel and the Blackhawk. This is the first I have heard of the non-Live Evil stuff, and it is great. There is a lot more Bartz and Jarrett improvisations than I heard on the Live-Evil material, which of course had McLaughlin
