  1. they have all the longbox versions of the Miles series except the Gil Evans one (and Jack Johnson and the recent 7 steps haven't been given that treatment yet, so they are still the fancy metal spine versions)
  2. Back to the original topic- the Worst. Why rate the worst? Bad is bad. They all suck equally
  3. you've gotta be the only one, then.
  4. REALLY STUPID. .....and childish.
  5. Amen to that! I'm still expecting to get a bill in the mail saying "sucker, you really think you're getting CDs for $4.99?? You owe us another $10 for each CD you boguht!!"
  6. I've never had any problem, ordering titles other than my monthly selection regularly since the site started, last fall. Everything I've ordered showed up less than a week after ordering. Guess I'm just lucky?
  7. I just recently got Tribute to Lester, and it is excellent, even though it's only a trio. I particularly like the Suite for Lester-an absolutely beautiful performance by Roscoe.
  8. And all of this assumes that anyone outside of NY really cares whether or not any Yankee gets to play in the playoffs. I will celebrate when they finally don't qualify for the playoffs!
  9. I too am losing the $4.99 deal. Thankfully I stocked up early on, so there isn't much left outside of my queue that I must have. I may get the reconfigured Miles/Coltrane box while it's still $4.99/disc, but that's it
  10. you're gonna love it. It is some great listening, and LOTS of it!

What is the opinion of the Burrell disc? I see Roscoe Mitchell and Moye are on it, so it's gotta be at least worth hearing
  12. There's places in NJ that are hot spots. Big business in handing out those tickets. Forget about even approaching the speed limit on Ohio Interstates with Michigan plates. It's like they have a special joy in pulling you over
  13. I don't care for the popularity aspect of it being a Top 40-ish music, but I do wish jazz musicians earned the money that the Top 40 "musicians" do. I wish jazz was in the minds of young kids too, the way that the Top 40 stuff is. It's a shame a lot of us didn't discover how great the music is until our 20s
  14. Crimson is just about the only non-jazz I still listen to regularly (I'm not sure what category Zappa falls in....)- the level of improvisation is always listenable, if not astonishing. Something I'll never get bored of.
  15. Next Collector's Club, Heidelberg 1974 is available for pre-ordering. As much as I like Fripp's constant evolution (as composer, player, buisinessman, etc), I still always find myself going back to this period of Crimson to study his playing. He just never sounded like anyone else.
  16. 70s all weekend here in SE Michigan, mostly sunny, few clouds. Absolutely beautiful!
  17. 72-74 Crimson then 90s Crimson
  18. I'd have to pick early 70s, maybe 1970, 71 or 72 (some of Neil Young's best work was then, the Allman Brothers with Duane up to 1971, Zappa and his Hot Rats, Grand Wazoo, etc, King Crimson...)
  19. after one listen, this is the most Coltrane-esque that I've heard Lloyd sound on the ECM discs.
  20. Stanley Crouch wrote the liner notes???!!! Wait, there's liner notes in an ECM disc????!!
  21. I don't know what rmb is. Actually, I don't care. I come here to discuss music, jazz especially. What's the problem? I didn't know there had to be ONE place for each discussion. Silly indeed. Anyway, I rate all of Jarrett's grunts as 1 (lowest on the scale) because I barely notice them. I'm listening to the piano interacting with the bass and drums, so I never notice the grunts, honestly. It's only when someone else points it out that I notice it, so they don't bother me.
  22. any opinions on this yet?
  23. The Organissimo band members Conn. Series 500 Chuck Nessa
  24. as stated many (unbelievably!!) pages ago, he's Andy D
