  1. Put me down for a c-note. I'm in for a fin... I have a couple Loonies and a Two-nie to donate
  2. I don't think they ship to the UK
  3. Being originally from Canada, I would have to say my answer is America!!! The good old USA
  4. I was brutally subjected to bon jovi's "music", as it were, today by someone I work with who loves the stuff and just had to play the entire greatest hits CD. I tried, but I heard nothing resembling anything other than idiotic, formulaic plodding. Nothing interesting from the drums at all. Or from anywhere else, for that matter. I just can't believe people pay to listen to this stuff!!
  5. the Village Vanguard box is absolutely vital. Get that one, and get the Birdland disc mentioned above-that version of Afro-Blue is stunning
  6. I've listened to the first disc and most of disc 2-this stuff is incredible. Why did I know nothing about Ayler before this box?? Those trio recordings on disc one have some great interplay between the musicians. I can't wait to listen to this whole set. Between the Art Ensemble (Nessa box set, and some individual titles) and this Ayler box, I've acquired some fascinating music in the last 6 weeks that is going to keep me busy for years. Is this the first release of any material recorded at Coltrane's funeral?
  7. I bought it today for $47-that's after I traded in $55 worth of used CDs that I haven't listened to in almost a decade. This has to be the most luxurious box set I've ever seen! Probably not the best place to start with Ayler, but I couldn't resist
  8. so after a few months with this box, what does everyone think? Is it worth the $99 price, with all those interviews? I mean it would be interesting to hear them once, but I don't know how many times I would go back to hear the interviews.
  9. Did he actually leave ECM?

    Wayne Shorter...

I've read a completely different version of this song's recording: he did 15 different takes and they spliced together the best of them
  11. she is in some of the pictures included in the bookelt with the 2-disc Chick Corea live set Rendezvous in NY

    Wayne Shorter...

he's what, now, in his 70s? And Footprints Live is one of the his best releases. Amazing to be so creative for so long
  13. so what does everyone think of this? Hoochie Coochie Man??
  14. Chuck, thank you for producing that box!!!
  15. That is terrible customer service. You have every right to complain to ebay about this. They have to honor that price
  16. what do people think of Tutankhamen? I found this disc today for $12, so I got it. I've only listened to the first two tunes so far, and I think it's great. I think Jarman is even playing a guitar on it!! But the bass is just amazing. Malachi Favors is rapidly becoming one of my favorite musicians!!
  17. I just cant believe that. there must be two "tico torres" out there
  18. Really don't think that had anything to do with his "jazz credentials". Lester Bowie told me about some sort of "trumpet summit" he played in Boston. Jack walked on stage (looking like 300 lbs) and said something like "Sorry I'm so G-D fat, but I've been fucking for years and finally got pregnant".
  19. I'm looking forward to it. I don't have any Haden (outside of his Jarrett and Ornette Coleman appearances), and it looks good.
  20. yep-and now its in my queue for next month!
  21. I find the articles and interviews more interesting than most of the BB discussion at AAJ, but that's just me. And I'm no alpha male; I'm lucky if I'm an epsilon male!
  22. I realize this is a good price, but is it still worth it? I know very little of this period of Evans, but I do have the one-disc sampler from the box, and I don't listen to it very often. The few times I did listen, it did nothing for me. Am I missing something? Is there better stuff on the box?
  23. like the lady on tv says, sometimes, it's all about the "O"
  24. That's it then, I'm heading back downtown ASAP to get that Cherry/AEC set. I think it was only $17.99, so it sounds like a good deal
  25. Cool, he's back at the Firefly, also one of Organissimo's haunts. I think I'll go check him out this year
