  1. My wife is going to the store next to Borders tomorrow, so I thought while she's in there I'd go in and get a CD
  2. I've listened to that Wilco album-I fail to see what all the fuss is about. I like Wilco, liked them a lot earlier, not so much now but I have a great respect for them for changing so much, refusing to remake the same album, etc (they are a lot like Neil Young that way), but if that's the second best album of 2004, then it was a pretty dull year
  3. I intend to pick up Tribute to Lester, The Meeting or Sirius Calling tomorrow at Borders. I don't have any of their older material (I'm picking from the above three because that's all Borders has), and I'm wondering which of these recent discs I should get first. I do intend to get the Nessa box and other older material eventually, but for now all I have to choose from are the above. Recommendations?
  4. Neil Young-This Note's for You!!
  5. I don't mean any disrespect, but the Doors were/are terrible. And boring

    Dylan SACDs

they also just added Self-Portrait, of all things!! that's never been remastered though, so I'm gonna pass for now
  7. i'm hoping for someone to post more pictures

    Dylan SACDs

The limited edition box set of the entire Dylan SACD hybrid series (15 discs) is now in www.yourmusic.com for $95, with no shipping. Unbelievable!! I think this was around $200 or so retail when it came out
  9. Sorry, I must have misunderstood you. My mistake. I just haven't heard anything that's called Latin jazz that I've liked yet. Anyway, I didn't mean to hijack this thread
  10. I can't believe this-I gave up on thisever showing up in BMG and went ahead and got all the discs through Columbia House using some of my bonus points and 3 for 1 sales. I wish I understood how and when and why they get certain titles
  11. This is insulting. How about not being judgemental of other's likes/dislikes? I'm sorry that my preferences disturb you so much-if you must know, my local NPR station plays latin jazz in the mornings and saturday afternoons. I've listened and have heard nothing that's appealed to me so far. Why must I like everything in order to not have a closed mind?
  12. That's very unfortunate. You are missing out on a genre of very fascinating music. how do I "miss out" on something I don't like?
  13. I have the funky cube box, which is annoying to use and so I don't listen to it often. However, the first 2 discs are very nice, all acoustic, from the VSOP to the solo stuff. Some previously unreleased in America-I can't remember how many or exactly which, but it's a pretty good chunk. Sorry I'm so vague on this-it's too much trouble to open the damn thing and pry the booklet out and then chase after the discs as they roll down the hall because the box isn't designed to exactly be usable-I can tolerate a little bit of disc 3, with the early electric stuff (Head Hunters, etc), but most of the rest of discs 3 and 4 are from the horrible electric years (Rockit, etc). I got it for about $35, but I wouldn't pay more than that for it. Also, in the liners is an interview with him, where he has comments about the songs
  14. 15%: http://www.bordersstores.com/features/feat...=coupon_survey1
  15. sometimes a critic will say "this is like that", which can be useful for pointing me in new directions
  16. who wrote the liner notes?
  17. Expectations
  18. seriously, though, I like this tradition and may have to start one myself. Maybe a trip to Borders tomorrow to start exploring Anthony Braxton's discography
  19. hopefully my eyes in the morning
  20. I never corresponded or even discussed anything with him, but I still feel sorry for those who did know him. RIP
  21. I wonder if anyone here will write a more accurate bio of Wayne-I'm sure there are lots of folks here who could. It is so disappointing to find out how shallow this book seems-I bought it yesterday but haven't had much time to do anything more than flip through it and look at the pictures so far. I'm still going to read it, despite the problems
  22. I'm happy there's finally any book about Shorter-he's one artist that I know too little about
  23. I think this one is a little better: (Though if you eventually decide to spring for the Impulse box set, some of it will be duplicated.) isn't all of Fort Yawuh on the Impulse box??
  24. you need Inside Out and Always Let Me Go, for the "out" stuff. Both are outstanding, some of the best piano trio releases in years. Inside Out had a blues feeling, but Always Let Me Go is more free, with long open ended improvisations
