Good point. Per the closer discussion, if the scenario is that Pap is going to *save* three games in a row, I'd agree with you. But if we're asking if he's going to pitch in three games where he gets a save, that's a different question. Given that we DON'T know in advance what the circumstance will be, I think you have to play the game for today. If you consider the Putz example, I think it's likely that if he'd entered a close game in the 7th during that two week skid the M's had, pitched 2-1/3, and maybe picked up a W instead of a save, that might have been enough to inspire a listless team. Instead, he was reserved for his 9th-inning role, as the team hopped right in the toilet without a life jacket. Another situation where you might want to use your best reliever is maybe in the eighth inning you have the #3 hitter get on base. You bring in your best reliever to face the 4,5,6 hitters. If he gets them without allowing a run, you can have anybody pitch the 9th to get the 7,8,9 hitters.

It would be interesting if this ever goes to court- without hearing his material and just based on what I've read in this thread it seems the DJ is right on the legal line of fair use/theft. I could see this decided one way at trial, then reversed repeatedly on appeal. But I'm no lawyer, so...

I'm a Yankee fan and I'd like to see the DH abolished. Play the game the same in both leagues IMHO.

I watch less because the coverage is so damn awful- sorry, I just have no patience for the 153rd athelete who has overcome xxx to become an Olympian while the rousing music plays in the background. I wish I had a good foreign channel so I could just watch sports and skip the saccharine profiles. There was a race in the last Olympics where these two women were going neck & neck for a good distance, very exciting, I'm glued to the tube to see who will win, and.... they cut to a profile of one of the competitors!!! Give me the race, it was great. By the time they came back to the race one woman had taken a nice lead and like BB King,'The Thrill is Gone'.

Good thing he had his seatbelt on! If it's true that he dozed behind the wheel, it's a shame and something that happens all too frequently. Driving while tired is a real grind and in this case, dangerous. I recently did a 6.5 hour drive while sick(massive congestion) & tired. I had to make frequent rest stops and a few times I started drifting into the next lane- it was scary.

You know, I'd love to believe that Dara Torres is for real and that nothing funny is going on, and I know she's doing some sort of special testing, but still.. Over 40 and clocking record times in a sport where peole peak around 22, and in a sport rife with sophisicated doping schemes, etc? At a munimum I'm skeptical.

Tonight was beer can chicken on the grill with Cajun Blackening spices, a tomato salad(farmer's market tomatoes, backyard grown basil, garlic & some extra virgin olive oil), okra sauteed with garlic, celery,red pepper, onion, tomato, parsley and jalapeno and some broccolli rabe with garlic and olive oil.
