  1. There's plenty of rockers who dug Sun Ra, Sonny Sharrock, etc. I just bought 'Conquistador' recently, and when I'm in the right frame of mind it just turns my head upside down and shakes out the accumulated crap- cheaper than therapy and just as effective.
  2. GOOD LUCK, AB, THANKS FOR THE MANY GREAT AVATARS!!! (but it is a sad occasion, too - I'll miss your insight, too. BEST WISHES TO YOU AND YOURS
  3. After the cheese thing and the ham thing, is bread next for a sandwich thing? I wouldn't go to his house for ham and eggs, pizza, etc.
  4. I ordered from Hiroshi once, and I don't recall what the shipping was, but it definitely was not excessive at all. His service is utterly fantastic and he answers emails rapidly. in a circle(See Living Color thread)
  5. Give Carlos his props, though- he's the only guy I've seen wearing a 'Trane t-shirt on tv, and he even mentioned Miles & 'Trane in People magazine.
  6. 'The First Day' is a verrrrry good disc, some stunning piano by Lewis, and the duets are a beautiful grace note to a great date. I also have a disc on Classics records that was made in France, with two cuts from 1941, the rest from 1944. it's part of a series called the 'Chronological Classics'.I recommend it highly. I have another one in the series by James P. Johnson that is also excellent.
  7. I learned about Mosaics, a lot about jazz(and I've been listening for 30+ years!), about books, politics, where to get great discs at a great price(We have a great collection of bargain hunters here, and God bless 'em all!), about other kinds of music, about weird stuff on the web, and I could go on and on. The most important thing I've learned here is what a fine & generous group of people post here. Thanks to everyone- you folks are a great bunch!
  8. I haven't seen it, but maybe they're trying to boost sales by inducing headaches?
  9. I used to watch the show religiously and howl at the antics of the cast. Fire Marshal Bill, Homey the Clown(I don't think so), spoofs of music(Carrey as Vanilla Ice was a scream), etc. I hope they go past the first season- there were some good bits there. Enjoy it, Moose. I think I'm getting it soon(Father's day & birthday this month.)
  10. You'll never run out of things that need to be done around the house- I've had a house for 12 years and it never, ever, ever stops. But it is nice to have a yard, etc. and the tax deduction is very nice(beats renting!) CONGRATULATIONS, JOHNNY E P.S. I liked the Reptet disc- some tasty music on there- is a second one in the works?
  11. 42. I'm trying to construct a box of Mosaic boxes, and I only need --- more to complete it 43. That box I built is sooooooooo nice I need to start another one.
  12. My two sisters have called me Philly for at least 30 years(My name is Philip), and Q is my last initial. I don't know the etymological origin of my last name, but it is in the dictionary, and according to those who know me, describes me beautifully!
  13. The disc is on the pricey side but well worth it IMHO. If you dig any of the guitar work that Pete Cosey did with Miles in the '70s, this disc is a must-have. Laswell(the producer, I believe) lets Cosey strtch out and wail, and he does so to great effect. The combination of Laswell's bass, Drake's drumming and Cosey's space guitar provide a nice rhythmic and aural landscape that allows Sakata to roam about with much alto & chanting. I enjoyed this disc a great, and I was hipped to this disc from someone on the board(can't remember who, but thanks).
  14. Here's a link to my Ebay auctions: http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?View...&sort=3&rows=50
  15. What about 'Attack of the Crabmonsters" or 'The Crawling Eye'?
