  1. Merry Christmas everyone!
  2. Sad news. Another one of the greats have left us. Thanks Horace for all the wonderful music you provided us with. Your music will live on.
  3. Tom 1960, man, you've got to pick these titles: All To Real, American Experience, Change The World, Don't Let It Go, Early On(Evidence&Dawnbird), Ends And Means, Folklore, Mr. Wizzard, Scene One, Secret Love, Simple Pleasure, Sterling Place All-Stars, With Eric Alexander; Friendly Fire, Live At Smoke, The Battle,Live At Smoke, he made a few with Cedar Walton, at least one with Jeff Palmer Sounds like you're a huge fan. Thanks!
  4. Great to hear some good buzz about Vincent Herring. I've been meaning to pick up some of his recordings for some time now.
  5. Far too young. My deepest condolences to you. Always keep your memories of Lisa alive in your heart.
  6. Recently I've run across a problem accessing All Music Guide. On my laptop I'm able to gain access to the website, however with the desktop I fail to connect. Obviously, I must have accidentally clicked onto something which denies me access. How can I solve this problem? Thanks. Just so you know, I'm running off Windows 7. IE 10.
  7. It's a shame they couldn't put together an online edition comparable to what All Music Guide already does.
  8. I finally got around to purchasing "Perk Up' yesterday and conclude it's a very nice session. The album starts off a bit slowly with the title track but things move on from there. The contributions of Strozier are a plus and the playing of Candoli and Wofford who I know little of, make this worthy of owning. Especially if you're already a fan of Shelly Manne.
  9. I came back with a decent amount of stash without breaking the bank. Picked up couple Mosaic Selects, Bob Brookmeyer and Johnny Richard. A Bethlehem issue Art Blakey Big Band disc, Gerry Mulligan "California Concerts" Volume 1 and 2, Zoot Sims" Hawthorne Nights", Shelly Manne's "Perk Up", Stan Kenton "Las Vegas Tropicana", Charlie Rouse/Paul Quinichette "The Chase Is On" and Miles Davis "Jazz At The Plaza". I think I did pretty good! Can't wait to make a return visit.
  10. That usually ends up happening to me whenever I go to places like this.
  11. I'm heading there tomorrow/Thursday with fellow board member "jmjk". I hope to make a few purchases. It will be my first visit.
  12. Thanks for the tip on this. Sounds like a must have.
  13. The set arrived in the mail today. Presently listening to disc 1 Django Reinhardt. If disc 1 is any indication, this is going to be one heck of a purchase. I was able to score it for $35 plus shipping recently.
  14. A glass of red wine with dinner every day. Occassionally one before bedtime.
  15. Live Tornado Coverage: http://abclocal.go.com/wls/live Hope the damage will be minimal. The Chicago Bears game at Soldiers Field has been suspended.
  16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWXtqSjy_bM The audience seems to have enjoyed the performance.
  17. I might be interested in the Stu Williamson discs.
  18. Only $3.99?? What a bargain! I've had this for years and like it a lot. Glad to see someone who enjoyed this session,. Never claimed in my initial post this session could be compared to some of Johnny's better known releases. Just that if you happened to already be a fan, not to overlook this release. Just my thoughts.
  19. I've bought a bunch of cd's as a result of hearing them first on Spotify. A lot of artists I might not otherwise would have taken a chance on, I have made purchases because of Spotify. To me, that's a good thing.
  20. I picked this up today as opposed to the much pricier version. I think I'll somehow survive without the booklet. http://www.amazon.com/Mozart-Complete-Concertos-Wolfgang-Amadeus/dp/B006XOBFB0/ref=pd_sim_sbs_m_1
  21. Sounds like Rhino Records and Jack's Rhythm's? Exactly! Jack's also started carrying used books some years ago, and they have a very nice selection. Unfortunately, every used CD (3 in total before giving up) I bought from them was scratched. Rhino does have quite a few classical discs, mostly used, but the ones I pulled out and looked at had scratches. I live too far away to be bothered with returns/exchange. Both shops have lots of vinyl. [Added] Inquiring Minds bookstore, across the street from Rhino, has a reasonable selection of jazz CDs (and a few classical), worth looking at if you're in the area but not worth making a special trip. Their music section also stocks decent jazz titles - I've seen Larry Kart's Jazz in Search of Itself and Groves/Shipton's The Glass Enclosure in the past. Thanks for the tip on Inquiring Minds!
  22. Sounds like Rhino Records and Jack's Rhythm's?
  23. Monk Montgomery on bass and Art Taylor on drums. Recorded in 1963.
  24. A recent purchase when I visited Newbury Comics. Scooped this up for $3.99! I'm quite happy to have gotten ahold of this session. What do you guys think? An underrated date, IMO.
