  1. Norv Turner should have been gone long ago. What has happened to that team? As for Rex Ryan in NY, I can't believe that bafoon keeps his job. Jets fans deserve better.
  2. I hadn't heard about this till now. Glad to hear she's ok. Makes me alittle nervous next time I go out and start my own grill. I also second Stereojack's comment.
  3. Not many opportunities to see shows in my area these days. The Hudson Valley seems to have a dislike for jazz music. That said, I was able to see Kenny Barron a few months ago in a solo performance. Kenny is one of my favorite jazz pianists. I even got to meet him after thse show and have him sign my cd. Seems to be a very nice man as well.
  4. I checked with Bob Sunenblick a year or two ago, and he does plan on reissuing the Don Joseph LP. One of my favorite Uptown albums is Charlie Parker's Montreal 1953. It was recorded around the same time as Bird's The Washington Concerts. It's great to hear Bird in fine form with a young Paul Bley, the obscure Valdo Williams and the even more obscure Steep Wade. Apparently, there's a book documenting Bird's visit to Montreal, which could make for an interesting read. Glad to hear that! I saw the Parker date on Amazon and was very curious if it was worth the purchase.
  5. At present I own a few releases from this label. One's that immediately spring to mind are Charlie Parker in Boston, Charlie and Dizzy at Town Hall, Charlie Rouse/Red Rodney Social Call, Philly Joe Jones Dameronia, Doin' The Gigi by Gigi Gryce, Hank Mobley Newark 1953 and An Uptown Christmas. What are some other releases by this label you would recommend exploring?
  6. Ugh. Pass the barf bag!
  7. How does Heart get in before Deep Purple?
  8. :tup I just bought this in the past week and getting a great deal of enjoyment from hearing it. It brings back a ton of childhood memories.
  9. Sad news indeed. Having never been of big fan of Brubeck outside of owning the obvious "Time Out" , I will keep in mind those recommendations mentioned in this thread. Most notably "Live At Carnegie Hall". Great to read all the many positive comments on the man.
  10. I remember many years ago having the opportunity to see blues great Albert King perform at an area venue. After the show ended I walked out to the alley when I saw Albert heading out to his van. He was totally exhausted having given everything that night on the stage. He managed to scribble his name on my album. I still own it.
  11. It would be great to hear what Ralph is up to. I have a number of recordings mostly appearing as a sideman. I've always enjoyed his playing. I really wish he would get back into the studio!
  12. I just purchased this collection of Sam with the Soul Stiirrers and have only scratched the surface of this fine collection. Looks like I've got some great listening for many years to come.
  13. FWIW, I now own "Wisteria" and it's a good one especially if you're a fan of Kuhn.
  14. I'm not certain how long this will be available, but there are a couple of used copies of Coltrane's Complete Village Vanguard Recordings 4 cd set used in "like new" condition from Amazon Marketplace ranging from just over $22 to just under $25. If you want it, move fast! http://www.amazon.co...s=john coltrane

  16. I had the opportunity to hear a few tracks off this album yesterday when WKCR on there Sunday Jazz Profile show featured the music of Stan Getz. I enjoyed the Stan Getz & Bill Evans tracks featured and will most likely pick this up at some point. Good stuff.
  17. What became of the injured Alouette player in yesterdays game who had to be carted off the field? It was pretty scarey watching him lay motionless on the field for quite some time.
  18. I know how some here feel about Fresh Sound, but would this be a good alternative to the Capitol issue?
  19. A nice one. My favorite track has to be "The Grim Reaper's Rapture". Maybe my track of the week? The intro is where all hell breaks loose before everyone comes together bringing a sense of order somewhat to the proceedings. Yeah, not quite what you expect from the Criss Cross label. If you have the opportunity, give that one a listen. I really enjoy Warfield and since this is my first purchase, I look forward to delving deeper into his catalogue.
  20. Happy Birthday, Jeff!
  21. Happy Birthday, Paul. Enjoy the day my friend.
  22. Has anyone picked up the Sims release? It sounds pretty good based on the samples here on Amazon.
  23. I'm going to make a donation to the Red Cross. It's the least I can do.
  24. Thanks Paul. Actually the supervisor wanted me to work my day off tomorrow/Tuesday. I said no thanks. She wasn't happy
