  1. Wow. Incredible prices on those. I'll bet the shipping charges are high, though. Might double your cost, but it still may be less than other sources... Shipping on Amazon Marketplace is $3.99 per item ordered, so both still come in under $20. While the price for the Shaw set has risen somewhat recently, it's still worth the purchase. I bought this set for the above price recently and it's easily one of my better purchases in quite some time. Take the leap. You'll be glad you did! http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B005QOR1ZM/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

  4. I think I prefer this version!
  5. Got to hear this one. Thanks David!
  6. I'm not certain if folks here know of this upcoming release scheduled for October 15? http://www.amazon.com/Fritz-Reiner-The-Complete-RCA-Recordings/dp/B00BT70J0Y/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377816626&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=Fritz+Reiner%3A+Complete+RCA+Collection+%5BBox+set%5D A thread on a classical forum I sometimes visit: http://www.classicalmusicguide.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=42688
  7. Count me in on this one!
  8. Happy Birthday, kh!
  9. Welcome guys! I hope your board comes back soon? In the meantime, make yourself at home and get involved in the many great discussions.
  10. Hey Dan. The one you mention indeed has the Fontana label on the cover of the album. However, in the description of the album on Amazon's website it states Emarcy. No matter, I'm sure were talking about the same animal. I was reading one of the reviews of the Verve release and one of the reviewers cited the audio mix was far from ideal. That was not my impression when I heard this played earlier. I thought perhaps one release was superior to the other in terms of sound? But what the hell do I know?
  11. I just had the opportunity to hear 2 tracks off this release a short time ago during WKCR's birthday celebration of the music of Wayne Shorter. Both tracks featured Barney Wilen and Bud Powell sitting in with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. Sounded great! The question I have is that I see 2 identical releases of this album. One on the Verve label, the other on Emarcy. Is one preferable to the other? Your thoughts are appreciated.
  12. Let me also add since I'm presently listening to the broadcast, there will be similar celebrations in the coming days to Lester Young and Charlie Parker. Good listening for those interested.
  13. Happy Birthday, Dave!
  14. Happy Birthday, Bebop!
  15. Happy Birthday, Joel!
  16. 98 degrees. With humidity factored in, 104.
  17. Thanks guys! Staying home tonight. Will go out to dinner hopefully Friday evening. It's 91 degrees here and the air conditioning in the house feels especially nice after a tough day working outside in this heat.
  18. 90 - 95 till Saturday. With humidity factored in more like 100. Tough week to be a mailman.
  19. What do you guys think of this pianist? I enjoy his Maybeck disc along with the Bud Powell tribute album "Beautiful Bud" recorded on the Steeplechase label. I see he's recorded quite a number of releases for this label and your input on these releases would also be appreciated. Thanks.
  20. Happy Birthday, Jostber!
  21. 5 Guys. I was there only once, but it was pretty darn good.
  22. Just got back from Maine where it was 93 on Friday, Thursday a high of 91. I thought it didn't get hot in Maine? Oh yeah, when I left this morning at 10:30 it was already 87. Right now back home it's 83 and very muggy.
  23. Happy Birthday, GP. Hope it's a good one.
