  1. Glad to come across so many positive responses on his latest release. Sounds like a no brainer.
  2. An October audio review from NPR. http://www.npr.org/player/v2/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=163712216&m=163712366
  3. I've heard a few tracks off this album while listening to WBGO recently. Sounds pretty good. Anyone here own this and willing to offer up a few thoughts?
  4. Dogs; Yorkshire Terrier ( Riley) Soft Coated Wheaton Terrier ( Freddie) Golden Retriever (Charlie)
  5. Man, this is real good stuff! Just sayin'.
  6. Well if you had to pin me down I have a preference for dogs but love them both. As Bill F can attest, it a regular menagerie here. We talk on Skype regularly and he usually sees at least a dog or two during our conversations. I think he likes Charlie our 9 month old Golden Retreiver? Besides Charlie, I own 2 other dogs and 3 cats. We don't have kids. This is our family.
  7. Happy Birthday, Hans!
  8. Happy Birthday, John!
  9. Often overlooked in my collection even though I must own half a dozen of his Blue Note dates. When I think of the era when he recorded with Blue Note, I immediately think Freddie and Lee. Having been listening to his music the past few days has made me realise what an underated player he was. Thanks Donald for the great music!
  10. Happy Birthday, Michael.
  11. Sounds like you had a great time, Bill!
  12. I just heard a track off this album on KCSM and it sounded great! Does anyone else own this and willing to offer up a few thoughts?
  13. I wish it was my anniversary. I'd have my wife buy me that Bill Evans/Verve box set. Not till June though.
  14. Any thoughts on this date? I see Terrell Stafford, Peter Bernstein, Mike LeDonne and Jessie Davis play on this session.
  15. Damn cold day. Temps during the day were in the mid/upper teens with wind chills near 0. Easily the coldest day here in the past 2 years.
  16. Mulgrew Miller Trio with Ivan Taylor on bass and Rodney Green on drums tonight in Windham, New York.
  17. Realising these dates couldn't possibly come close to matching Larry's classic Blue Note sessions, I'm still curious what folks here think of these recordings? Your input is appreciated.
  18. Norv Turner should have been gone long ago. What has happened to that team? As for Rex Ryan in NY, I can't believe that bafoon keeps his job. Jets fans deserve better.
  19. I hadn't heard about this till now. Glad to hear she's ok. Makes me alittle nervous next time I go out and start my own grill. I also second Stereojack's comment.
  20. Not many opportunities to see shows in my area these days. The Hudson Valley seems to have a dislike for jazz music. That said, I was able to see Kenny Barron a few months ago in a solo performance. Kenny is one of my favorite jazz pianists. I even got to meet him after thse show and have him sign my cd. Seems to be a very nice man as well.
  21. I checked with Bob Sunenblick a year or two ago, and he does plan on reissuing the Don Joseph LP. One of my favorite Uptown albums is Charlie Parker's Montreal 1953. It was recorded around the same time as Bird's The Washington Concerts. It's great to hear Bird in fine form with a young Paul Bley, the obscure Valdo Williams and the even more obscure Steep Wade. Apparently, there's a book documenting Bird's visit to Montreal, which could make for an interesting read. Glad to hear that! I saw the Parker date on Amazon and was very curious if it was worth the purchase.
  22. At present I own a few releases from this label. One's that immediately spring to mind are Charlie Parker in Boston, Charlie and Dizzy at Town Hall, Charlie Rouse/Red Rodney Social Call, Philly Joe Jones Dameronia, Doin' The Gigi by Gigi Gryce, Hank Mobley Newark 1953 and An Uptown Christmas. What are some other releases by this label you would recommend exploring?
  23. Ugh. Pass the barf bag!
  24. :tup I just bought this in the past week and getting a great deal of enjoyment from hearing it. It brings back a ton of childhood memories.
