... add a little Jamaican rum.

When I was in ninth grade, playing trombone in the freshman band at school (a school with something of a rep in the music department), we got up on stage to play our tune and ... ... within about a minute the band fell completely out of sync. There was no rescuing the situation. We just soldiered on sounding like some avant guard experiment in marching band music with the music teacher waving his baton frantically. The look of exasperation on his face was priceless. Disappointed, but no big deal. We all kind of laughed it off afterward. Although whatever thirst I might have had for public performance seems to have disappeared at that exact moment. I left the stage for the last time, never to return.

Happy birthday. Enjoy!

Sounds ... wide-ranging Allen. Can you give any general outline of the accompanying narrative or storyboard, if that's the right way to put it? Or is that still sorting itself out?

Best description of Pepsi I've ever seen.

Pepsi does suck.

Very nice. Thanks for the link. Lotta music there.

Dig Roberts a lot. Has she released anything since The Chicago Project? Just yesterday I received Fight the Big Bull's "Dying Will Be Easy." Enjoyed it very much. Not familiar with Glows in the Dark. But it sounds like a worthwhile performance.

Was recently kicking around the idea of offering printable coupons online. Would they be of interest? Do you think people would actually print and use them?

Early impressions: Red Sox are a force, even with Big Papi in a big funk. I like the brand of baseball they're playing -- aggressive. Yankees pitching may have been a tad overrated. They seem in decline. Jays are a LOT better offensively. And that could be huge in the AL East. Somebody get the Goodies powder. Rays have a nasty hangover. Upton, Navarro are really struggling at the plate. Zero clutch hitting. They're going to have to scrap just to get back to .500. I'm jumping off the Marlins bandwagon. Bull pen is a disaster, it looks like. Is Seattle that much improved? What's going on there? The NL Central looks like a dogfight. Pittsburgh is a nice early surprise. About time!

don't worry the rays will win today, the A's don't win series. You put the reverse hex on 'em.

This one's nothing to write home about ... How about this little number? My all-time favorite, the Fiat 500 cc ... vroom, vroom. They used to have black, tarp sun roofs (flaps) and suicide doors, I think.

Wild game, from what I saw. The Rays are in the tank early, so I might as well get my schadenfreude on with the Yankees.

Another ball hit up the middle that it looked like Hanley could have at least dived to keep from going into the outfield, and he just kind of waved at it while jogging in the general direction. I believe the go-ahead run scored on that one. Does this guy take plays off or am I just catching all his bad hi(low) lights?

And Al Michaels is over-rated, IMO ... The guy's claim to fame are five words he uttered about three decades ago. Madden-Summerall were the best. But Madden became something of a caricature of himself in later years. Still dug his broadcasts though. But the whole horse trailer thing? Contrived and silly. Cosell-Meredith were great. Entertaining and insightful, I thought. Enberg-whomever kind of puts me to sleep (maybe cause it seems like he's always the 4 p.m. game).

These USC players ... I don't know if they're overrated, but they sure seem over-hyped. And with Keyshawn on ESPN slobbering all over these guys, it's all a bit much. He's talking about how Sanchez is a "perfect fit" in New York and could step right in and play this fall. ... Really? Sanchez may be a great player, but with 16 games under his belt, he's not exactly polished. Stafford and Freeman both look more advanced, IMO. Both faced tougher relative competition -- Freeman because he was on a weak team in a tougher conference, Stafford because he started for three years in the SEC. The only Pac 10 player taken in the first round who was not from usc was Cal's Alex Mack, C, at No. 21. ... or maybe I'm just grumpy ...

I try to be a bit agnostic on the whole Yankees-Red Sox thing, but is there any rivalry in sports that comes close? The history, the big games, the memorable plays, the contrasts (right down to the parks). Cubs-Cards, Dodgers-Giants, Celtics-Lakers, Cowboys-Skins, Habs-Bruins ... none of them are in the same category, in my mind. I'm a huge fan of this rivalry. Marlins were 2 outs away from a shutout and they allow 7 runs in the ninth, wasting a 3-hit performance by Johnson. Brutal. Didn't see the game but apparently everyone's favorite SS Hanley Ramirez dogged it around the bases, turning a triple into a double, then got thrown out trying to steal third. ... Maybe fitting for the Marlins that it all took place on dog night. ... Drew 29,000-plus though. Looks like the Rays are going to win one tonight. ...

Yes, good news indeed.

I like this. Finding creative ways to make your music work. Would it be fair to say there are a lot more opportunities today along the lines of creative dance performances that require music, than there were 30, 40, 50 years ago? EDIT to say, not just creative dance, of course, but all sorts of performance art.
