    Impulse Label

Thanks for the link Porcy. I'd forgotten about that topic, some interesting comments there but it doesn't cover this point. My Curtis Fuller Soul Trombone (A13) also has AM-PAR on the jacket but the record is a later pressing. The Winding has a matt-ish label, certainly not glossy and has the earliest design of label.
  2. I was looking at my copy of Impulse A3 (Kai Winding)and noticed that it was a product of the AM-Par Music Corp (both on the label and the jacket) . All my old Impulse albums have gone now and the remainder of, various vintages say ABC Paramount, so I've nothing to compare it against. Question is - does AM-PAR denote an early pressing?
  3. Thanks for the info Bob. I'll get my order in.
  4. This afternoon McCoy Tyner; Reaching Fourth/Inception/Nights Of Ballads and Blues.
  5. Sal Salvador; Starfingers; Beehive
  6. Max Roach; The Many Sides Of Max. Mercury (UK)
  7. I think I can resist this batch too.
  8. One of the may good things about this board is the way it stimulates me to play something that's been sitting on my shelves for far to long without a play. Dakar is one of those. An interesting instumentation and lineup and a good listen but to nothing extraordinary. Just another fairly casual Prestige date. The Fuller with Hampton Hawes and Two French Horns I think is much better, a lot more going on but I imagine it was just as casual though maybe because of the instrumentation they ran through the heads a couple of times. Both Teddy Charles productions.
  9. Curtis Fuller with Red Garland. Prestige(J)
  10. Curtis Fuller; New Trombone,OJC Prestige before that Curtis Fuller and Hampton Hawes with French Horns; Prestige, German Metronome pressing.
  11. Belated Birthday Greetings, hope it was a good one

It's strange that Fresh Sound haven't got into these yet. They've mined the RCA catalogue pretty thoroughly. Maybe they can't source the music.
  15. I bought a copy of this in Spain a few months ago. Sounds fine to me.
  16. Jimmy Cleveland, Jim Dahl, Frank Rehak, Gene Quill; Three Bones and a Quill; Roost (Fresh Sound)
  17. An all vinyl day today. Currently Eddie Bert; Kaleidescope before that Charlie Mariano; Alto Sax For Young Moderns; Bethlehem (Affinity issue) Bennie Green; Time (Bainbridge issue) Shorty Rogers; Giants Vol 1; RCA Jazzline France Bob Brookmeyer and Friends; Columbia Jazz Odessey Dave Pike; Pikes Peak; Columbia Jazz Odyssey edited for typo
  18. Two Different Worlds by Freddie Roach from 'Mo Greens Please' (Blue Note)
  19. 'Impressions', plus a little elaboration. Quote from the sleeve note ' a swinging modal adventure, the tilte an obvious answer to Miles Davis' 'So What'. Nice to hear this again.
  20. Mine's arrived at last. What a nice set, the long Soul Eyes is particularly impressive. Probably Murray's best duo recording. Very good closely recorded sound.
  21. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GUY
  22. Just dug out my NYC copy of All That's Good. A nice set with very tasty solos form Conrad Lester, Frederick (not Freddie here), and Calvin Newborn (his only Blue Note date). They sound especially good on the churchy numbers. Not sure I like the vocal trio. Mostly they are not too offensive but a couple of tracks would have been enough. Cover features six Grandassa models.
  23. Frederick Roach; All That's Good. Blue Note NYC stereo.
  24. Despite having all the Freddie Roach Blue Notes they probably find their way to my cd player or turntable less frequently than his organ playing stable mates. Not sure why as Good Move is immediately attractive. Brown Sugar, perhaps because of the couple of moody tracks took a couple of playings to get into but it's a rewarding set with the added bonus of some nice playing by Joe Henderson. The remainder I have on vinyl but I'll be getting them out over the next couple of days, I can't recall the music on Down To Earth and All That's Good at all though Mo Greens has had a play not too long ago. Should be interesting.
