  1. Still waiting for my copy to turn up from CD Universe. Trust it hasn't gone astray on its transatlantic journey.
  2. Tom's heart was always in the right place. As soon as EMI and private equity got together the writing was on the wall for the Blue Note stable.
  3. Presumably the Fergusons are from 1954 with Bud Shank, Bob Cooper, Bob Gordon. very neat and enjoable west coast jazz. Fresh Sound have issued some Ferguson on Emarcy from this period but I don't know if they included the 1954 dates.
  4. Welcome!
  5. Have a very happy birthday.
  6. What's New by UK vibes player Roger Beaujolais
  7. Belated birthday greeting Stefan. Hope you had a great day.
  8. Improves with repeated listening.
  9. Resurrected form the past. Just got this one. A really enjoyable session, with a good choice of tunes and tempos, but it can hardly fail with this lineup. My first encounter with Montrell as far as I know, sounds good to me here.
  10. What a gem. How did I miss this one first time around. Patton's near the Larry Young end of the B3 spectrum here and is on top form. Lovely stuff from Moncur, Reed and Queen. Highly recommended. Vide another thread, got this one from Caiman, came within a week and at a great price (for the UK).

    Kenny Burrell

Just played Soull Call. A very pleasant way to pass half an hour. It's professional, easy listening and who could really object to Burrell's fluent bluesy playing here? But do I want to play it again in a hurry? No, not really.

    Kenny Burrell

I guess I'll have to dig my old vinyl out. I've always enjoyed Burrell's Blue Notes (maybe for reasons other than Burrell) but it's been mostly downhill since then.
  13. I stopped over thirty years ago, in my early thirties, I was getting through more than 20 a day. I was a lot less well off then but there were perhaps half a dozen essgential records to buy - so all that month's ciggie money went on lps. It worked with a bit of help fom chewing gum. Good luck to all you quitters.
  14. My view too.
  15. I'm still generally pleased with Caiman for price and level of service. Only one item was said to be 'out of stock'.
  16. Good to see Ray Anderson get a mention. For such a remarkable player he doesn't seem to get a lot of exposure.
  17. Congolese Sermon (studio version); Jazz Crusaders.
  18. Interesting list, probably about a dozen in my collection.
  19. This is due for release on Justin Time on 24/6. It created a bit of interest when its existence became known. Don't know the recording date but it may well be one of Mal's last recordings. A must for me. Sound samples at Justin Time.
  20. Another six from the second batch - twelve all told.
  21. I think I have about six of them.
