  1. Red Garland; Halleloo-Y-All; Prestige green label Fantasy issue. Interesting as Red plays organ on one track.
  2. The Idividualism of Gil Evans. UK 2lp set with the two quartet tracks with Tony Studd, Paul Chambers and Clifford Jarvis.
  3. Found it now. It was on Vogue 74321115032 in an American Jazz In Paris series in 1992. Eleven tracks by Konitz, coupled with four nice tracks by Bob Brookmeyer. All excellent stuff from a period I like a lot.
  4. Hi Bill, I'm sure this came out as part of a French Vogue cd. For the moment I can't lay my hands on my copy but as soon as I do, I'll post details.
  5. This a very nice set. The only downside is that the fake applause (or so it sounds to me) is still present on Jazz At The Academy.
  6. Misplaced Cowpoke; Gary McFarland and Bill Evans
  7. JohnS

    Phil Woods

My recommendation would be the Prestige dates.
  8. I kept watching. Not sure why as not a great deal seemed to happen. There must have been some sort of pleasure there. It was shown in the UK on BBC so no ads so the show ran for a maximum of 40 minutes. Any longer and I doubt if I'd have stuck with it regularly.
  9. One thing that might turn people off is that there is considerable overdubbing of the reed parts. Tastefully done, I'd say, like the two Zoot Sims records. Thanks for that Jack, more than slightly off-putting.
  10. Yes, it would be nice to hear this one especially as Gryce is listed as playing several reeds as well as flute. Not a lot of room to stretch out with twelve presumably short tracks.
  11. Not quite up to the standard of the 'Mainstream' session, but you still need to have them
  12. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LON
  13. Art Pepper playing Good Bait on clarinet from a 1981 concert in Croydon (UK).
  14. Curtis Counce; Sonority; Contemporary
  15. Lovely set, one of my all time favourites. It was album of the week back in 2003. (couldn't get the link to work, sorry)
  16. I tried a couple of these, an Elvin and a Fruscella. Neither were anything to get excited about imo.
  17. Sad news indeed. Saw him perform a couple of times with Gil Evans. Remember his vocal on Moondance particularly.
  18. First off today- Johnny Griffin; Studio Jazz Party (Riverside Japan) then Franco Ambosetti; Movies; Enja now Kenny Dorham; Showboat; Time/Overseas Japan)
  19. Bud Shank Quartet; Walkin; Pacific Jazz.
  20. Such sad news, another giant gone. For me Studio Jazz Party sums him up. I'll give it a spin later today.
  21. Welcome!
  22. I agree. These are among my favourite Getz sessions. As well as Verve and Roost I'd also add the Prestige dates. Such elegance and invention in under three minutes.
