  1. John - this one is great. I think you will like it ! Pressed the button earlier today. Looking forwrad to getting it.
  2. Thanks for the heads up. Now's the time for me to get the Jazz Crusaders set. Didn't like having to pay the over $100 shipping for a $102 dollar set.
  3. The only place for the theremin is in 50s sci-fi movies.

    RIP - Danny Moss

This is sad news. We booked him to play at our local jazz club last October and though he was clearly not in the very best of health his playing was remarkably good with a great sound and lots of projection. We were hoping to have him back this autumn. A great shame.
  5. HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Have a swinging day.
  6. I liked the look of this one, but held off after listening to the samples.
  7. I have this. I got Teddy to sign the cd. He said he remembered the date well, 'geat fun' he said.
  8. The AK Salim is a great set. So disapponting that the alternates are excluded. But knowing Fresh Sound they don't have access to the master tapes. The two Pretty For the People alternates surfaced on the Atlantic reissue of that album not too long ago. On the credit side there's some hard to find music here.
  9. I only know him from his movies but he had some great roles. Always a pleasure to watch.
  10. I still have my original copy of the Shepp/Dixon Quartet. What an ear opener at the time. And still one of my favourite records. Sold my Dixon/NYC5 album when it was llast reisssued on cd. Have a few of the others as reissues. All nice stuff, Savoy was a great label with iot's own special feel.
  11. Thanks Patrick. Press reviews here also picked up on the technical problems I mentioned. Otherwise seems the show was more or less the same as the on you attended.
  12. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM. And thanks for everything.
  13. Very sad news to start the day.
  14. What festival isn't a disappointment these days. Enjoy Tyner and Gravatt.
  15. Bob, I'm glad I went as I'd not seen Moran before or heard much of his music. Overall it was more than a tad disappointing. If it's not too far to go I might be be tempted but otherwise stay in for Eurovision!!!!! Or better still dust off some vinyl.
  16. Anyone else get to see Moran on his current UK tour, In My Mind, Monk At Town Hall? It's a nice idea to pay tribute to a major influence and a historic concert at the same time. I found a lot of the multi media projection distracting especialy trying to read text as well as listen and watch the musicians. Sound wasn't that great either at the Turner Sims Hall, unbalanced and muddled. Moran, Mateen and Waits were predictably excellent, the UK contingent not bad but not very Monkish imo. Nice touch at the end when the band walked up to the foyer still playing and continued there for several minutes, the rhythm section on bells and cowbell.
  17. Louis Smith; Smithville
  18. Usually a turn off for me too. Hate that tinkling even if it's Duke Pearson doing it.
  19. How true and very nicey put. I feel this too, more and more these days. I'm the same age as you and I find it's hard to capture the magic that I once felt. It's still there but now a rarity.
  20. Belated Birthday Greetings David
  21. Those DIWs are hard to find these days. Two or three Murray titles are still listed at Cadence. Both the duo with Hicks, Sketches of Tokyo and For Aunt Louise are nice albums.

    CIMP sound

    I'll endorse Ahmed Abdullah too
  23. Hope you find this. I had the album briefly when it first came out. I know some people like it but it never got to me I'm sorry to say. I found it a very lacklustre affair.
  24. I paid around £20 for mine when it first came out. Great set, great value but unfortunately some of these spanish things go oop quite quickly. I don't know if they ever repress - a look at the Fresh Sound website shows numerous items as currently unavailable. In the vinyl days my personal rule was to buy when you see it, if you delay then you might not get the chance again. Same applies now.

    CIMP sound

I only have ordinary playing gear but I can't say that the few Spirit Room CIMPS I've heard have impressed me soundwise.
