  1. Charlie Parker; Bird With Strings, Live at the Apolo, Carnegie Hall and Birdland. (Columbia)
  2. Up, still looking for a shop. Spanish members please help. Thanks for you good wishes MG and Bob. I wont be looking for the Fresh Sounds HQ Larry, their ways are too mysterious for me.
  3. Welcome Dan
  4. Thanks for the reminder Bill, forgot all about it. Thank goodness for listen again.
  5. A timely reminder. Just played my vinyl (a late pre OJC issue, new cover art). Great music and fun sounding too.
  6. Wow!, loved it. Thanks Garth.
  7. I'm only an ocasional listener, say twice a week for an hour so but it's still verty bad news.
  8. I'll be visiting Barcelona for a few days towards the end of the month. Is there a city centre shop that has a decent stock of Fresh Sound/Lonehill cds?
  9. I've not seen the Fresh Sound cd so I don't know if they explain the source in the notes or if they mention it at all. The personnel above comes from their web site.
  10. That's the one I had. I believe though that Zoot Sims is an unlikely choice. Not sure it sounds like him. Somehow Seldon Powell seems more likely to me. Any other views.
  11. The issue of Melle's Prestige albums on Fresh Sound appears to clear up the personnel on the three previously unissued dates. Fresh Sound give the following- Art Farmer, Hal McKusick, Seldon Powell, Gil Melle, Teddy Charles, George Duvivier, Shadow Wilson.
  12. Sadly I never got to hear one of Anderson's albums. There was one on DIW that was around in London for a while yaers back. I can't remember seeing another.
  13. Just got mine - Kicks arse is right!!!
  14. Bill Jennings 'Billy In The Lion's Den' I have that somewhere. Thanks for the reminder, another one to dust off. Love those Blue Notes.
  15. Sorry to say I don't know the World Trio. I had the vinyl Extensions until recently. Reluctantly I let it go - my collection is just too large to keep everything. Overall though I prefer the quintet from this period.
  16. Max Roach with Hank Mobley. OJC Debut.
  17. Not too many in my collection. Like Holy Ghost I have the Sun Ra Greatest Hits for much the same reason, although I haven't gone on to buy many more Ra albums.
  18. The Box. You probably don't need it all but it's the best way to get to the music.
  19. Thanks for posting Bob, enjoyed that. I'll be looking forward to the sequel.
  20. Reissues definitely required.
  21. Despite the suggestion that AOTW goes monthly and the reasonable interest in Big Al's choices for January there's only been one tentative enquiry (thanks papsrus)about a February nomination. Now's the time to jump in and nominate an album. I'm happy to keep things going but it can't happen without you.
  22. Mid 50s to mid 60s. But lots earlier and later. I'm definitely a hard bopper at heart.
  23. Heard a sample and sounds good. Hopefully I'll be able to find the time to make a permanent copy.
  24. Looks tasty Bill but I didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much as the earlier Riversides. If I remember it sounded rather too casual for my taste - but it a long time since owned it. Found the same applied to most of the 'silver' Xanadus.
  25. Summit Meeting At Birdland Bird, Diz and Bud (Columbia). Reminded of this on a another thread.
